Gwinn's Story
After graduating from college in 1973, I moved to Maine to attend graduate school. Nearly 50 years later Maine is still home. The rural nature and good people remind me of Anne Arundel County as I knew it growing up on my family's farm.
I have remained an avid outdoorsperson and conservationist. Despite a fulfilling professional career in higher education as a professor, administrator and college president, working on our 100 acres of forest and lake front in Freedom, ME is my great joy.
My wife Ellie (a native of Annapolis) and I have three grown daughters. They are each beautiful and accomplished. They have given us seven wonderful granddaughters so far.
I served at Unity College in Maine for 23 years -- 10 as president. It was a great joy working at an institution that shared my values to stewardship of natural resources.

eveloping world. Ellie was chair of Developmental Education at the College of the Marshall Islands in the equatorial Pacific where I was on my second presidency. We felt good doing work for people who have great need. We returned to our home in Maine in 2010.
Having failed once again at retirement, I served as president of the University of Maine at Fort Kent -- in the northernmost tip of Maine along the Canadian border -- from 2010-2015. Nous parlons francais.
Now, finally in retirement, I continue to operate my business consulting for higher education boards and also chair the Maine State Board of Education and the Maine Charter School Commission.
In 2021 I completed a "bucket list" item -- visiting ALL 30 Major League ball parks. See my photos for the acknowledgement of that by Dodger Stadium.
In college I began using my first name (Wilson) not my middle name (Gwinn) as I was known in high school.
