Hai-kang's Story

Love Life, Living it, and Enjoying it! Life has been good to me...Just getting older (not sure if wiser?); I just want to get in touch with some of the old friends in my childhood. "community.webshots.com/user/haikanghsu" Just copy and paste the above link into "address" box in MS Explorer to see my later in life pictures on my Webshots account. Lot's pictures of my son and my Junks! plus some project around the house. I'm also on FaceBook as "Dennis Hsu", found my other Old friends there; may be they were yours too, check there in my friends section? I'm still new to FB. I'm not sure if anyone still remembers me? I was very shy, small in size. Now just average height and gain a lot of weight. I was born in Taiwan and my English IS still terrible, since I still speak Chinese at home and among my Asian friends. I actually think I did better in Sr. Dowdy's Spanish class? He couldn't say my Chinese Name, and gave me a Spanish name - Miguel (Michael)? Where are all my friends in Calculus class? Remember we got "killed" in the math contest when we're assigned in Calculus Category while we're just starting the Calculus class? Who's that teacher? Didn't he dress as a woman on Holloween one time? The reason I don't think most people remembers me is because my family moved away to Asheville, North Carolina three month (or was 6Mo?) prior to our 82' graduation. I did came back to see some of you graduated! Vijay, Alfred M. Randt, John Vogt, Bob McKenna,.....and many more. I need to check my yearbook to make sure I had spelled your names correctly. Billy B! Where are you? (FOund you on FB) Remember being "Prime!" instead of "Cho-o-o-o-ice"...! Ha! Ha! Anyone still remember Jeng Nee Mao (Found her on FB) and Todd Mao? (Her brother, Found him too on FB) I didn't know too many cheerleaders except most of them were in my Calculus and Art classes... I wonder who finished my Mural Painting on the second floor wall? (Supposed to be some kind of Spaceship Odyssey thingie on second floor, near art class hallway, not the Muscular Cheerleaders done by the OTHER GUY. What about my Cross Country running buddies? (Cathy Lister?) And who was the other guy I had to stay back with you for the first 3/4 of way during the race? Yeah, you know who you are...I guess you were a sophomore at the time? What about the Drama club? Wow! That was LONG time ago.......Remember I was the (2) dead bodies in "Arsenic and Old Lace" play being thrown around. I think that was in 1980? I do missed the Bowling class for PE since I haven't bowled for a long while. Where is Ian Wooding? Ian and I used to do "weight training"...imagine little skinny guy like me? We used to run around catching Sparrow Hawks and trained them, and have a lot of fun too! Remember? the good old days! Wow! Anything else I had missed? Oh, I never liked taking the school bus to school. Usually, I walked or rode my bike to school until I droved the family station wagon in my Senior year. I'll write some more, when I can think of anything else? Missed you all! After High school, I went to UNC-Asheville studying Computer science. Since I was so into art, I got burned out from programming and quit school. So I went to Texas and worked in my sister's restaurant on South Padre Island for a while - great place to live - Spring Break paradise Yeah, I was sort of a BUM....................Traveling, working here and there........... I have been around everywhere for a little while. It was kind of fun. I have also stayed in New York City in the mid 80's work as Messenger on bike (and Skateboard). Also did some Food and Service work. W...Expand for more
ent back to Asheville NC in 87, and bought my first house and my first brand new car when I was 23 on my own, still single. Then, went back to school and got a degree in Design and Drafting, finally landed a job in Westinghouse at Asheville NC doing Engineering work. After that, I changed few more jobs. mostly in Engineering and Designing field. Early 90's helped my sister opening Vegetarain Restaurant in Sandy Spring, Ga. (Cafe Sunflower, now they have another one in Buckhead - Mid town area in Atlanta) Finally, I moved to Atlanta during Mid 90's. I'm currently working full time in Atlanta doing Design work for an Avionic firm. I'm still here afer 13 years............ I don't make a lot, but I enjoy my work, and people around me are nice. Hobbies and stuff: I love cars and motorcycles (or anything on wheels!) - I think maybe that's why I haven't saved a lot of money? hee, hee....Ever since in college, I've been having more than 2 cras (one time I had 13 "junk" old VW beetles in my Mom's yard) Between me and my wife, currently, we have 7 vehicles (mostly my old junk BTW, my wife has the new minivan and her 9 yr old Camry) I used to take my car to Road Atlanta (pretty cloes to me), Atlanta MotorSpeed Way, Roebling Road Raceway- in Savannah Ga, and Little Talladega Speedway in Alabama. Top speed on Atlanta MotorSpeedway was 157 mph in my little Honda S2000; I've ridden in the instructor's Cup car near 200 mph on Road Atlanta - Crazy fast! I had formed local S2000 Cub in Atlanta (I was the founder, but no longer have the cars or with them), now working on another track car with an old Porsche 914 stuffed with an JDM Subaru STi motor - EJ20. I have a need for speed! I've also done 120 mph on my old 75 Honda CB550 on the street (younger then on the Moutain road back to Asheville in the middle of the night out of no where) - That was stupid! The chain was dry, not lubed; lucky I'm still alive! Don't do waht I did, do it on the race track. I've also had several bikes in my life, (mostly under 1 liter I'm not very big) but gave all up after living in Atlanta; it's just too dangerous riding here in the city where nobody know how to drive around here, I prefer to ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville, NC. I do still have a little 50cc Scooter I had "Sup'ed-up" to top out 53 mph.............I remembered the good old days in Florida when I used to ride those mopeds (and fix them all the time) Converted two of my Diesel vehicles to run on WVO- Waste Vegetable Oil. (Also converted other friends VW & MB and sister-in-law's TDI Jetta too) I have Battery powered Lawn mower, weedeater, and trimmer; which I charge thru my solar panels in the backyard. I catch rain water in the 250 Gallon Tote tank (see them in my webshot account photos), and used to store in my basement garage over the years (I used to have 8 of those totes inthe basement, and the water will last over two years since there is no air or sunlight to keep anythign from growing in it) Bamboo Experiment gone bad, had to scrap them and kill it. Also started my fruit garden, I really need to start my Veggie garden soon, but there are so much work need to be finish in my backyard. Now, I'm happily married with my wife Agatha and our 2-1/2 year old boy, Nathan. **Updated 5/8/2012** Life is great! Waiting to hear from you all, even if you don't know me; you might know few of my old friends? Get in touch, we're all a lot older now! Just say "Hi" to each other, at least we share the the same class year, probably the same class rooms and lunch seats? Let me hear some stories of your journey in life! Later, and Peace!
