Hal's Story

I was easily the most obnoxious member of this graduating class. Nobody really was close, to be honest. Classmates should remember me for several things: starting the "Rebel Yell" chant we did at athletic events; but especially for taunting opposing fans, or anyone for that matter; and for being nearly thrown out of Brayhoff not once but twice: for getting a bus load of fellow student seriously drunk on the way home one night (with Tim Coffey's help) and for going to the sectionals senior year, after being banned from any further games. I was banned, by the way, for accosting a referee after a game at Roncalli, and then nearly getting arrested by a member of the law enforcement who happened to be there and was ready and willing to keep me from assaulting the guy. o impress a group of friends who, let's just say, enjoyed encouraging each other to do something stupid after a few beers. We were all very good at that. My single notable academic achievement was in the yearly Rose Poly math contests, where for some reason or other I always placed very high, including senior year when I tied for 1st place among all mathletes in the states of Indiana and Illinois combined. To this day I have no satisfactory explanation for this phenomenon, which actually happened; it continues to impress my family and my wife, but nobody else. One of my fondest memories was at the annual awards ceremony in the gym at the school; where I would be awarded my math prize while an entire gym full of people went silent, scratching their heads and wondering how the hell that dude ever got an award for anything.
