Hal's Story
After one year at Monmouth College, I escaped New Jersey in 1979 for the mountains of southwestern Virginia. In 1983 I joined the Air Force and spent several years in the Denver area. At the end of 1987 I returned to Virginia, but stayed in the Air Force Reserve. I got married and moved across the border to Tennessee in 1995. In 1998 I returned to active military service and was stationed just south of Knoxville, where I remain to this day. I retired from the Air Force in early 2014, with over 30 years of service.
I've been fortunate to do some traveling, surviving tours in Iraq and Africa. The marriage, unfortunately, didn't survive; however, I am blessed with two beautiful daughters. I completed my MBA degree with honors just a few weeks after my military retirement.

safety, working as a volunteer EMT for 29 years, and a volunteer or paid-on-call firefighter for 20 years, holding both positions in Virginia, Colorado, and Tennessee. Since 2007 I have been in law enforcement. I was an unpaid reserve deputy sheriff for over six years, then went to work as a full-time patrol deputy the day after my military retirement. Besides my patrolman duties, my agency appointed me as an emergency medical responder and a remote pilot for the small unmanned aerial system (drone) program. Now that I have hit the big 6-0, I am forced by rule to scale back my patrolman duties, and will be picking up crime analysis duties.
I was glad to see many of you at the WHS 40th reunion, and send big THANK YOUs to the reunion committee!
