Harold's Story

Life O.K...I went to 'E' Street School, 6th grade at Short school, 7th and 8th at J.B. Davidson, 9th, 10th, and 11th at San Rafael High. I went to a school in Sacramento for 12th grade, and graduated in 1967. I moved into San Francisco immediately after graduation...literally...and worked for a while, waiting on the draft board to call...got tired of waiting and enlisted in the Army. Went to lovely Ft. Lewis for basic, then to Biloxi Mississippi for air traffic control school. Really great timing...Hurricane Camille struck Biloxi pretty hard, so I spent 3 weeks cleaning up the town. Like with a chain saw clearing fallen trees off of the beach, etc. For my graduation I got a trip to Southeast Asia, then to Ft. Stewart Georgia for the last 13 months of service. I returned to Marin County, did a semester at C.O.M., did some construction work, traveled with a Harley Factory sponsored rider and former schoolmate during the 1972 AMA Class C Grand National Championship Series ( Mark won the '72 championship and was in the first group of riders to be inducted into the hall of fame ), and went back to construction, painting, tending bar, and I started playing music for money about then, 73 I think.. Up to Alaska for a year, waited tables and went sight seeing. Back down to Alameda. I started teaching sailing out of Alameda, and rigging boats...Expand for more
part time. Tending bar, waiting tables...Went to the Virgin Islands with 10 others, where we chartered a couple of boats and sailed around for a couple of weeks. I went back to Alameda and sold my truck, put some stuff in storage, and moved to St. Thomas. During my 13 year stay in St.Thomas I tended bar, caught a good tan, waited tables, played music (I had a band for ten years- The Corned Beef and Cabbage $5.75 Band, Direct from Boise Idaho) mostly with my friend Smokey Pratt (we opened for Jonathan Edwards, played with Dave Mason, John Madden, etc.), I became a licensed boat Captain and a divemaster, was a station manager for an air cargo outfit, and I became a submarine pilot for Atlantis Submarines. I moved to Maui with Atlantis, and after participating in the build of the largest passenger carrying sub (Atlantis XIV) I moved to Oahu. I spent eight or so years in Hawaii, then moved to the mainland. I went to work for a charter boat company in Seattle driving passenger boats on sight-seeing tours of Lake Washington and Puget Sound for a bit over a year, then quit driving boats and went back to the motorcycle business where I remain today. I currently work for Johnson Cams, where I am a head specialist. My work is mostly on vintage racing motorcycles, I'm living out in the country here in the Pacific Northwest, and life is good.
