Harold's Story
I have lived in Woodbridge Virginia, a community about twenty-five miles south of Washington D.C. since 1978. However, now that I work for the Department of State, I spend alot of time in outside Virginia.
I served in the U. S. Marine Corps for twenty-two years and retired in 1986.
Since that time, I have worked as a Government Contractor, Consultant, and in Government employee. I currently work for the U. S. Department of State in the International Programs Division.
I have been with the State Department since 1995 and have worked primarily in Washington DC, but have been temporarily assigned to Embassies and Consulates in Kingston Jamaica, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Panama City, Panama, and Honduras. I love to travel and see the world so my occupation helps fill one of my passions in life. The first week of May 2009 I traveled to Slovenia and Bosnia and monitored demilitarization and demining operations in the area of Sarajevo.
Hobbies include Golf, Softball, Hunting and shooting sports, and cars. I golf terrible, play softball like an old man, but I still have steady hands and sharp eyes and have been the Virginia State Senior Duelist Champion in Cowboy Action Shooting (SAS) for the last two years. In 2006 I shot in the Indiana S...Expand for more
tate CAS Championship and took third place in my class. I have also won black powder championships in my shooting class in Maryland and Virginia. I guess the four years I spent on the JROTC rifle team at Tech paid off.
My favorite cars have always been Corvettes and I currently have one. I've owned a 1969, 1976, 1987, 2004, and my current one is a 2009. My first Super Car was a 1968 GTO which I wish I still had. But hind sight is always better than foresight! Over the years I've found that American Iron gives you more bang for the buck, and is a lot more reliable. I hate garage bunnies. Especially Jags and Bemmers!
I'm involved in several civic and fraternal organizations and like to keep involved with local government and community activities.
If everything continues to go well, I hope to retire completely from work and travel through the States. I still have family in Indianapolis and visit several times a year. I try to keep track of old friends and schoolmates, but as time goes on, I find it harder to keep track of my old friends.
At Tech I wasn't among the popular elite, but on the same note, I wasn¿t a hermit either. If you remember me and would like to talk about the good ol¿ days at Tech, drop me a line.
