Harrell's Story
Life
After leaving Shades Valley , I spent 4 years in the Navy and was an antisubmarine warfare aircrewman and an aviation electronic technician. That was an exciting and interesting part of my life because I got the chance to fly missions off of an aircraft carrier. Also,I served with friends that I still cherish today.
After the Navy, I got married and moved to Santa Clara California. California was for 10 years and the wife was for 20. California was fun but I had always wanted to try Florida living and moved to the Space Coast in 1979.

lorida for the last 26 years. My residence is on Merritt Island which is about 10 minutes from the ocean. All of my children live close by. This is a great area to live if you like the beach and the Orlando attractions. I like both.
All of my career in Florida has has been with NASA in the Space Shuttle program. I retired in 2008.
Although I miss Birmingham, I haven't been back in probably 23 years. With all of my family in Florida, it is hard to plan a trip to Alabama and know what to do or know who is still around. I hope to visit and see the changes some day.
