Harriet's Story

After graduating Crawford, I attended SDSU, receiving both my BA and MA in Literature. Concurrently, I also got a job at SDSU, first in Career Services and Placement and then in the Dean's Office, College of Sciences, with responsibility for personnel and curriculum. In 1987 I left SDSU and spent a year working at MIT while living in Boston, where my brother (Sam Kounaves, class of '67) is a Chemistry Professor at Tufts University. Upon my return to San Diego, I took a position in the School of Engineering at UCSD. I am currently the Academic Personnel Manager in the Dea...Expand for more
n's Office and look forward to retirement in 2010. I have traveled to Greece extensively and have also spent time in Spain where I improved my Spanish to a conversational level. I have also kept up with French and I am taking Italian with hopes of traveling to Italy. In my spare time, I tutor in a program called Kids at Heart and I am involved in various events for the Greek community of San Diego such as the Festival held every year in June. Most recently we have raised funds for three endowed chairs in Greek literature at UCSD. I live near Balboa Park and enjoy walking.
