Harrison's Story

Life UPDATE: 28 Aug 2011 - Last night my housemate's cat died so today, after a ceremony, we burried him in the dessert. Oh yea, yesterday I got a call from my Radiologist telling me I am 100% cancer free (head to groin) and should start living my life once again with gusto. Thanks so much to all of your good wishes for a rapid healing! HI to all of Class of '68 (plus quite a few from '67 and '69). I really have been wondering how many of you (all whom I can remember) have been doing. I am now retired, having spent 21 years in the Air Force flying (that is, being flown) all over the world for the US Intelligence community. I was never in one place for more than four years. To catch up, after graduating from West Hi, I went on to ASU to study Architecture. After one semester I switched to the National Univ. Of Mexico in Mexico City (someone else paid for it) until I was called back by Uncle Sam because I hadn't asked permission to leave the country. By June '69 I was in the Air Force and, 21 years later,(divorced twice and no children) back in the civilian world. I went back to school, acquiring a BS in Psychology and one year of Grad work in Sustainable Societies, both from NAU. I now live in Las Vegas, NV (divorced for a third time) where I am enjoying life engaging in my hobbies of lapidary and jewelery making while continuing my working with leather. I also collect military memorabilia (swords, shields, helmets, armour etc.) from the pre-gunpowder eras. This still leaves plenty of time for traveling, taking in special events here, in L.A. and even AZ, or just staying indoors to read, write or whatever. I hope everyone is well and please write to fill me in on all the news. Scott Duff ('68) Update: My Mom died this April ...Expand for more
('07) which leaves no immediate family... Military As those who have served with me in the Air Force will attest, my military bio will have to be short and sketchy. From my entry into the Air Force in the Summer of '69, to my retirement in 1990, my service to my country took precedence over everything, even my friends and family. I will now attempt to justify that statement, even to those with whom I served. While in Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB) in San Antonio, Texas, I took what the Air Force termed a "bypass test." This one was for drafting, to determine whether I could go directly into that field because the Air Force had the need but not the training facilities. I passed the test and was assigned to the 75th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, Texas (it's now Austin Int'l Airport.) It was then that what seemed an endless background investigation was begun. My position in the 75th required I already possess a Secret clearance because it was an Intelligence unit. After a year or so I was sent for training to become a Photo Interpreter (later to be known as Imagery Interpreter when silver halide crystals gave way to digital pixels, long before your digital camera or mine.) In 1972 I was off to Viet Nam, stationed at the 12th Reconnaissance Intelligence Technical Squadron at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon. Of my many jobs while there were locating missile sights, AAA sights and supply movements; preparing target folders suggesting ingress and egress routes to limit casualties on our side; and to prepare a Bomb Damage Assessment Report to determine degree of destruction at target and estimate body-count of enemy dead (someone had to do it.) Bad stuff... ~WORK IN PROGRESS (someday, I hope)~
