Harry's Story
Life
After HS, I attended U of I (Urbana)from 1960 - 1962. Started in pre-med; migrated to commerce where I flunked out when I failed ROTC for non-attendance. Ended up in the Army (there was a draft then)where I settled down, earned a commission in Artillery, fought in Vietnam 1966; taught artillery gunnery at Fort Sill, OK and commanded my first artillery unit along the Demilitarized Zone in Korea in 1970. The Army sent me back to school (U of I) from 1971-1973. This time I attended classes and earned a BS in Accounting, sat for and passed the CPA exam in 1973 then went to Germany with wife Barbara and resumed the life of an artillery unit commander. Earned a MBA at Syracuse in 1978 and later served numerous assignments in Washington D.C. which included Chief Financial Officer (CFO)for the Army Nat...Expand for more
ional Guard and CFO, U. S. Military Forces in Korea. Retired in 1994 as a Colonel after architecting the Army's downsizing from a force of 850,000 to just under 500,000 after Desert Storm. Currently, I manage procurement of all Telecom services for Sears, Roebuck and Co. I have a son, Chris who lives in Boulder Colorado who is an avid mountain and ice climber. In the last three years he scaled Mt. McKinley (Denali) twice and recently assisted a climbing team on Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. Like so many of us I'd hoped to retire from my second career in a few years, but due to the stock market, will probably keep working for a while longer. In the mean time I play golf, bowl with college buddies, putter around with a few tropical fish, and recently built a townhouse in St. Charles, IL. Please come visit.
