Harry's Story

I always wanted to be a minister when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bsd idea. As it turns out, they were right. Sit down at my computer, get m y favorite bible program and listen. I didn't do anything that considered wild in school. My hero is Frank Clark. He was my best friend in school. He was not very popular at the time, but later with hard work and a great family to back him achieved great things. I did leave Chicago in 1969 and moved to Ann Arbor Mi. where I began a new chapter in my life. I returned in 1977and have lived here since. I do love my sports, football, basketball and baseball. When i lived in Chicago I was always semi popular; that I knew or associated with everyone, but I didn't have the the dive to elevate myself for looking up to others. I didn't have a lot of self confidence. This all changed when I moved to Ann Arbor. I acquired a profession that I was very successful and myself esteem rose with it Looking at your children is like looking at yourself. You try to change all the negative things of you that you see in them. The teacher that I remember was grade 5 at A O Sexton. She seen that I had a problem seeing, she moved me to the front of the class let me stay after class and copy my home work and alerted my parents. When I moved to Ann Arbor, I did have school related cores es that put me in the middle of campus life. I met players from the football and basketball teams and befriended them. My best friend would tell you I'm frindly, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as stand offish. I share my home with wife and son, which I fin...Expand for more
d fine..If I had one do-over it would be reading more in school. My first job was at a meat store, where I got paid $30.00 to clean back and make sausage. What I remember most about it is how nice the owner was I was 10 years old.. The memory I'll never forget is about my first job. This started when my family moved to Chicago from Gary. My mother had just married my step father. It was Sunday and my sister and I would go to the show; so I asked my step father for show fare. HE Said when he was my age he didn't ask his father for anything, so if wanted to go get it myself. At time we lived on 63rd and St Lawrence in 1963. I had a red wagon and their was a A&P on 63rd street 3 blocks from j=my house. I went to the A&P with my wagon, when I got their I was to;d to go home by the local boys. I toke my wagon home but not to be discouraged I went to all the stores around my house asking if they needed any help. Well next door to the A&P was meat market because A&P didn't sell meat. The store owner was short handed and hied me to clean up the back where the meat was butchered. The next morning he showed me how to make pan sausage. It was a rage people came back for more. Delivering groceries I might have made $1 or 2, but I made $30.00 at the store. I really don't know how friends remember me, but I think I was a nice guy who got along with almost everyone. Like most guys I was a romantic falling in and out of love. I was not a real good athlete, that's something had to do when you can't see. I loved to gamble flipping coins, playing cards and whatever that was going on. I guess my need for money was cause of that.
