Hattie's Story

Life Married? Yes. Much married. This is my last marriage though, and I'm married to the only perfect man remaining on this planet. He's very much younger than me. It may not work out, though. We've only been together 22 years (this June 2 will be 22) and we'll celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary on my birthday this August! I've three wonderful kids - well, they're adults of course. They're smart, funny, and good-looking. I've five grandchildren - a 14-year-old stunning Goth granddaughter - who is a natural blonde with beautiful curls and sky blue eyes, but now has straight black hair and wears kohl around her amazing eyes. If possible, she's even more beautiful! My 13-year-old grandson is a charmer with a twinkle in his eye and a GameBoy Advance in his hand. He's handsome and has curly blonde hair and sky blue eyes. Then there's our miracle child - my 11-year-old grandson who is the smartest, sweetest, most spiritual child I've ever met! Talking to him is like conversing with a 30-year-old college grad. He's brilliant and good and kind. He's also very handsome and has a killer smile. All three are talented - musically, artistically, academically. Next, there's my little angel girl - my four-year-old who's going on 16. She's a pinkety-pink feminine girl in some ways but a tomboy who likes nothing better than digging worms in her Mamaw's yard (I'm Grammy - Mamaw is the other grandmother who lives out in the country). She walked at seven months old, but didn't talk til much later. But, just like Grammy, she hasn't stopped talking since! She's a gorgeous little blonde with perfectly straight platinum hair and greenish eyes, who wears glasses and loves her Popaw more than anyone (my much-younger husband!) Her little sister will be two years old tomorrow and she's aptly nicknamed Sunshine. She has brought so much joy to those of us lucky enough to know her. She has platinum hair too but not a lot yet (her mom says her hair reminds her of Bill Murray - not much in ...Expand for more
front but a big puff of curls on her neck). She has incredible eyes and the face of an angel. But she has a habit of becoming demonic at the drop of a hat. We don't mind. She's still Sunshine. My job is boring to everyone in the world but me. I'm an information editor at a daily 75K circulation paper. It's exciting and never a dull moment, and since my hobby for all my life has been words, this is the perfect spot for me. I supervise six women who gather information (public records) in six counties and several municipalities, type the info into their laptops and send it to me. From there, I convert it to our format here, then add newspapering codes, combine files to make a page daily, put a cute picture on the page (the In View pictures come from the public, and they're free, so we have an endless supply!); this page is then "paginated" - which means I use the computer to put a miniature version of the page together, tweak it til it's perfect, then print it out. In addition, I input birth announcements from area hospitals, reunion notices, college and military news, school menus, corrections and - oh, yes, I also type in some horrible poetry from local poets. My cubicle used to be the first one in the newsroom, but over the years, the newsroom has changed, grown, shrunk and evolved so that my cubicle is now at the back of the newsroom (I haven't moved; the front became the back, and vice-versa several years ago, and I just stayed put!). I have more than two years of college under my belt, but no bachelor's degree yet. Just don't have time to finish. I love heavy metal music and big band 40's music, and blues and even some rap. I love science fiction books and movies, and mystery novels and movies, and comedies of all kinds. My political leaning is so liberal I lead the far left in being radical! My collections include owls, baskets, angels, fairies, apple items, miniature chairs and couches, teddy bears and bear figurines and some Oriental stuff. 'Nuff said!
