Hawa's Story

Life :::::::: THEN (Approx. 2005) :::::::: Wow. Life is good. I am enjoying this single life with my two sons. I am blessed beyond measure. A little over a year ago, it was difficult to imagine I'd feel this good today. My home is filled with love, joy, peace, unity, and FUN! I don't pull up to my house and dread going in. If you consider yourself blessed and favored of the Lord, then you know the kinda joy I'm talking about. Just because my divorce was painful, doesn't mean it wasn't a total BLESSING. I realized how much better off I was almost immediately. That didn't ease the hardship (intensity). I just didn't mourn as long. I can't replace what I learned from the whole ordeal. That alone made it worth the trouble. It's amazing what a lousy relationship can steal from you. But once you get "it" back, you understand the value of NEVER sacrificing yourself to please somebody else. I'll always be a professional business woman. I'll never be able to stay home and play Martha Stewart. I'll always be a little wild. I'll never be the shy stay-at-home type. I'll always be intelligent. I won't dumb-down to feed your ego. I may build you a profit-generating website instead of sending flowers. Heck, flowers die. But most of all, I'll always love with my whole heart. If that's not who you want, then you don't want me. I don't know who made more mistakes. But I do believe I had better intentions. But the end result is the same... Two people who no longer love or trust each other enough to keep the marriage covenant. There's no mistaking the fruit of my faith. Many great things continue to happen as this new woman keeps walking with a head held high. :::::::::: NOW (March 2007) :::::::::: As you probably read in my Announcements, I have a new beau. I honestly didn't imagine meeting a man like him. I was starting to wonder if men were made like him anymore. My sons adore V. His sincere heart and love for integrity made me reconsider my doubts that I'd ever marry again. V reminded me of something else very important: You should be madly in love when opting to spend a life together. So much of the language I hear from young women (including things I've said before), center around the "idea" of love and marriage. It's not a bad thing to want great things out of life, but those things come secondary to raw love and desire. Conversations with older women in so-so marriages almost convinced me that a relationship is an arrangement. Love is important. Respect is required. But the giddy feeling of a school-gi...Expand for more
rl is reserved for the very young. I'm living evidence that it's not, and at 35 I am happy to give and receive the giddy love of a 43 year old man. But we're also old enough to understand the need for depth and understand that we will continue on once "giddy" is worn away. We are strong and wise after the trials and tribulations that come with life. We grasp "Ride or Die" in a more profound way that the rappers who love the term. I said all that to say: Life is good. Life is great. In addition to mom, daughter, employee, church volunteer, and other roles - I love the new experience of "lovable woman" that I share and enjoy with V. The new role balances the nature and responsibility of the others. School Every class has one or more "light-eyed" wonders. How many girls didn't have a mild crush on Talib Briscoe and Vaughn Howze?? I developed an unusual crush on Shannon Bey (Bay?). That's one I never told ANYBODY. I've seen his brother several times over the past year or so... I work as a contractor in a government facility near Taka Reed, Brian Devers, and Amy (?). I hear that a few others from our class work here. Of course, my best memories about high school centered around Band. Andrew Johnson, LaTeef Bradley, Stanley Brown (aka Jahmal) and there's NO WAY I'd leave out my best girlie in the world, Loreen (Lorena) Ortiz. My girlie and I are still in touch. Although we share about our children, marriage, and life as real adults, we always end up in a laughing fit about something from high school. I recently caught-up with my junior high school puppy love, Terrence Gordon. Just last week Taka came by my desk with a Junior High Track Team picture that Terrance was in! Where do those years go... Workplace I work in a cube farm in a government facility as a contractor. I quite like some of the challenges and I love my co-workers. I don't know how many people can say that. If you ever saw the movie "Office Space," you'd have a good look at some of the lunacy that comes with cube life. Around here, that movie is a classic. Two or three women have been named the "Desperate Housewives" based on their very loud and very public discussions about home life and the proper blonde hair coloring. Nevermind that one is notorious for cheating on her husband who works just upstairs. When working for the government, I find that work is either dreadfully slow or you're piled with tasks... all due yesterday. I thrive in dynamic environments that require me to multi-task... so I have no blood pressure problems.
