I dropped out in the fall of 62. In September of that year, I had joined the Naval reserves with the stipulation I had to remain in school and because I quit, they put me on active duty and off to boot camp in Illinois January 1963. After boot camp I received orders to the USS Constitution in Boston, for one year I was a tour guide on the ship, how crazy was this, in School I could not pass speech class but here I was giving tours to large groups of people. After Boston I was assigned to the USS Forrestall in Norfolk Virginia. Deployed to the Mediterranean and visited many foreign ports. After a year I transferred to Jacksonville Florida for Schooling in the summer of 1965. That fall I transferred to a squadron at North Island in San Diageo California and made my first (1966) of many deployments on aircraft carriers to Vietnam. In 1967 I transferred to a squadron in the Philippines for eighteen months where I was a crew member flying mail to and from the aircraft carriers off the coast of Vietnam.
