Heather's Story

Life bio, huh. mine won't be typical. at 49 i find myself unmarried with no kids and at present, no man. jane austin's contemporaries would liken me unto a spinster when really i am more like one of her protagonists except that i have not found my own "mr. darcy." having lived in the 80's in nyc and pursued the bright lights, i received professional stage training with names i could drop, burned my candle at both ends by working hard & playing hard, acted out scenes in my life that only a tennesse williams heroine would dare to do, only to found out it was all brought on by an onset of adolescent manic depression-all great artists have a touch of that at least- got my mfa in acting at ut-austin in the 90's, became an award winning teacher in acting, voice, movement & directing at the university of florida & unc in colorado, now to find myself back amongst the wildflowers in texas breathing a sigh of relief. i have come home to texas soil to recover from this challenge of environmental illness. in case that's news to you, it's similar to the gulf war syndrome. chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia & multiple chemical sensitivities are all a part of it. basically i am sensitive to everything around me: cleaners, exhaust, perfume, hairspray, deoderants, formeldhyde (clothing, furniture, carpet). yes, it's a pain in the ass!! for a few years i dealt with the chronic fatigue piece. just crapped out. now those of you who know me must find that hard to believe. me the type A, manic, first born HOLLINGSWORTH! (that's for those who know my dad). me, fatigued? HA. well, it's true. sometimes i actually can be couch bound for up to 8 weeks. so if you want to talk movies, i can talk movies. i love netflix. the cure? well, there is no cure. yet. it's chronic. i take shots, i've taken IV's, saunas, blah, blah. i retired from work almost 3 years ago. thanks to my parents i'm not a wraith and a waif on the streets. but the very good news is that after years of dealing with this and changin...Expand for more
g my lifestyle DRAMATICALLY, i have a superior group of healers together. & this is after trying western medicine for years first. i have a homeopath, an acupuncturist and a chiropractor & an energy healer. i just got these 4 together in the last 4 months and things are starting to get better. i got off narcotic pain meds, which i had been taking for several years that were killing my liver and kidney & have been detoxing my whole body. if you have never detoxed your body you don't know HOW HARD IT IS. excruciating. especially if your body has not been able to eliminate toxins like the normal person has for years. sucks. so i've been off booze for years, & all sorts of substances that were so delightful in the 70's & 80's, come on--some of you did 'em too. (however, i am sure they were responsible for some of what's going on now-so i am certainly owning up for that). my bad! the shamans say that these illnesses can offer up profound learning experiences. seems most folks, in fact, lots of my best & dearest friends believe "everything happens for a reason" which pardon if i offend, believe is a bunch of malarky. the addage stops for me at the holocaust, but i could be convinced if that "the reason": is that a lesson is to be learned. my take on things is this: you either learn from it or you piss and moan and become a big fat victim & don't learn a damn thing from this gorgeous life we have and waste it up. so i have the advantage of having embarked on a heroine's journey that i am still on battlin' my foes, findin' my allies, yellow brick roadin' it with the guidance of the great spirit keeping my spirit bouyant most of the time. & when not, i have remembrances of my friends & my youth, & my best teachers, the hub & the sunsets in the cottonfields & l&h drug. i will freelance in directing, acting, teaching and coaching after recovery such as when i recently dialect coached william hurt. it was so upliftin' seeing y'all at the renuion/wishing for ya some peace & love
