Heather's Story
Life
I lost touch with everyone I was friends with at BHS after 1982.I lived in europe between 1984 and 1991.I made my way to Oregon after 1993.My only contact with anyone from my neighborhood or the High school has been via classmates .com So far I have reunited with four people (A fifth and sixth possible this year).I have the warmest of recollections
of the person
whom I shared my first kiss with(Mike Shirley the summer of 1980. we'd gotten together during the end of the BHS concerte chorale tour of Europe and at our chorale party back in Berkeley after the tour-Woo wee! Loved him! I admit that I had my eye on him at least a year before we'd gotten togetherI found him to be so stunningly handsome and I have never met anyone who was so intelligent athletic and gentle since then(he had a gorgeous singing voice-floored me.-It made me look forward to attending school each day-seriously I really enjoyed him-
otherwise I was trying to graduate from BHS as soon as possible for various well known reasons that I will not disclose unless any old pals feel compelled to inquire. The soul of BHS was gone after he graduated.Though we lived around the corner from each other I did not have the pleasure of meeting his family which is unfortunate(Iam sure I would have enjoyed that very much) I actually felt there was a strong bond-It was a shame we both were so quiet with each other though that can be a blessing-If you ever read this Mike ..I miss you and would like to contact you to say Hi..There were many transitions ......I miss all of you BHS people and hope to reconnect with most of you.I don't know how long Iam staying in Oregon possibly
another ten then I might move VancoverB.C.It depends on if I can job transfer to Canada and Seek residency .(Iam sick of republican presidents and our economy!)
.I might return to europe.Continue to look me up people I'd
love to hear from you don't be shy!
I keep in contact with Susan Stephens(82) &Nora Krevans(81) and am yet to meet up with Alison Rose(82)I also just recently over the summer recieved a letter from Ruth
Senturia(81)all the way from Itgatpuri(sp?)India. She'd responded to my letter that Nora Krevans and I wrote to her.Wow!she's been living there for twenty years teaching meditation classes
Nora,Ruth and I sung in concerte chorale and Chamber singers (79-80
and 80-81)My goal is to remain in contact with quite a few people.I just wanted to take the time to say Hi a few people that I knew back in the stone ages Hello to:HansCallenbach,Jess Clark,Jeff and Sean prenter,Coco shinomya(sp?),

School
Well people,I had the wackiest time in college after BHS.I could
never decide on a major.I went from
one college to the next because I
had interest in both the language
arts, and english and then I studied business mgmt.During my formative years from kindergarten
through 4th grade I had a blast and had many friends in the Berkeley schools I had attended. But I think I had the best time At BHS after having a mediocre to poor time in Sacramento schools for four years
(I do not ever want to live there
again!)But I had a blast at BHS
doing the student performance productions,Chorale, and running for student office and doing dance production my
Senior year.I was one of those"hill
kids"party givers so I had a blast
with that although my dad could have killed me!I miss the socializing with people.I have not
met anyone else like the people at
BHS that I was friends with.It was
a memorable experience things I would like to share with my grandchildren.I say this though at
the time I was alot less assertive
and shy.So it was amazing that I
made so many friends! They all meant alot to me,Particularly those from my neighborhood .That is something I think is unique about
the Berkel...Expand for more
ey school system structure at least in the 70's and
early 80's.There are some really neat people that have come out of
the Berkeley schools.I tip my hat
to these specialpeople!Lastly , I got to study abroad at the alliance Francaise
in Paris France,The autum of 1985 What fun Met some fun Brit's .Got Visit Oxford university May of 1987 and spend extended time at York university in Northen England.Had Brit flatmates and everything. What fun !!Sang with a local
Folk club as well.England is my second home-Love the Up series Documentaries
still would like to work and do advanced studies there-It's there or Canada!!!
College
yes, when I first started college to my
disappointment I was forced to enroll
at community college at the descretion
of my father! This was because I had
blown any chances at getting into the
major eastern schools like Yale or
Harvard (If you can believe that!) Or even UC Berkeley. Well, folks I was not
slow or anything but I made impractical
choices (Like cutting class for two
months straight spring semester sophmore year in high school) I did
this for a year and a half(college) then decided
I was too bright for this jr.college stuff
(Iam serious that was my mentality at
age 18and 19 that I was above it all)
I then enrolled at .S.F. State in CA for
one term this was after two weeks of Italian at Hayward state and choir
and Modern dance! Well needless to
say I dropped out by the time I got to
S.F.State but had this blind ambition
to somehow get a degree so six years
later I tried enrolling at art college for
a term then I went to an Alternative
private college for another term( which i will never do again!)
meanwhile I tried to make my self as
fluent in french and spanish and took
fluency courses at community college
while I was dabling at private schools
where did i get the money you might ask?by the magic of student loans and
as a result i now only qualify for grants and
Scholarships If I decide to complete a
Docterate- meanwhile I got sick of
California (the high cost of living and
the impersonal student life it was no fun going to school in the 90's at least
not for me being in my late 20's and early 30's had something to do with that)-I finished the remainder of my
courses at a private bible college in
Eugene (Can you believe that? Buddist oriented me?)...I don't know about this college stuff..
if i could do it over i would not have
cut classes in high school and just
chose two colleges at the max. I really
covered from one spectrum of academics to another from Art to
ethnic studies dabling to foreign language to Business MGMT. I guess
I'd like to teach English or foreign language which is why iam not quite
done with my advanced studies.....
I list myself as with a master's though
it's not official.I have taken some Docterate courses in French and
Classics(Latin,Greek) but no official
completion but it's easier to say i have
a master's in Psych!(HA HA) Living
abroad in Europe between 84 and 91
broaden 'my horizons academically
so to speak .I sucked in school in
the begining Iam mean i couldn't
say more than "comment allez-vous?
amd je t'aime" in french much less
did i know that Esquela was school
in spanish.I didn't know nothin' about
languages in high school I was mentally imobilized when it came to
translations until i was 21( after the fact
of living abroad) I was really ambitious
about being "educated"so to speak
but what does it mean? is it a social
status quo goal, does it make good
conversation? I cannot say wether it
made me a better person but i sure
put more effort into college than high
school. Is higher education really a valid measure of intelligence? No of
course not there is so much more
to being truly intelligent (What a commentary gee) I just don't want anyone to get the impression that i
must have become really academic
later and had brains after all that is
only a fraction of what maybe intelligent. It is integrity and the will to
learn and grow in or outside the classroom............don't be afraid to e-mail
me i'd love to hear from you ....My colleges
