Heather-Lyn's Story
Life
I managed to stay in Worcester and get a decent job anyway! I am living just out of Webster Square in a cute little house full of books and music. I'm still at UMass Medical School - well, I left for a while, but now I'm back. I cashed out my ten years state service and used the retirement money to fund ten years of grad school. Now I'm a sociologist on faculty in Family Medicine and Community Health, teaching doctors to be better teachers and communicators. Newly divorced and seriously dating a new guy who is peaceful and kind.
College
Finally finished the PhD. Now I...Expand for more
just have to find something else to keep me busy and out of trouble, though I've decided to save medical school til later so I'll have something to do in my 50s.
Workplace
I'm back at UMass Medical School. Some of you may remember my working here in patient accounts through high school and to pay my way through Worcester State. Now I'm on faculty in Family Medicine and Community Health. My areas of focus these days are qualitative methods, doctor-patient communication, cultural competence, and faculty development, helping doctors to become better teachers and researchers.
