Tina's Story
Life
After leaving the military, a normal life lasted approximately six weeks for me. I wasn't ready for life as a grocery store clerk/community college student so I jumped on an airplane and ended up spending the next six years on Rhein-Main Air Base as a bartender. There, I met my future ex-husband and had my first and only child, Max. Motherhood made me realize that it was time to be responsible and get a career so we moved back to the states (rampant base closings were also a good motivator). Once again I was a grocery store clerk/community college student, but this time I really meant it. I've been a registered nurse for 8+ years, the last year spent in the emergency room. I really enjoy it. My son Max is now 13 and is the joy of my life. I've been together with my boyfriend, Steve for six years now. He's a keeper! :-)
With the help of Steve and Max (they made fun of my bingo arms, you know the flabby things that some p...Expand for more
eople call triceps), I found the motivation to get in shape. This epiphany led to the end of a 19 year smoking habit and 3 marathons, so far. A far cry from the chain-smoking, beer-drinking, profile-loving schlep that I was. Well, O.K. that was alot of fun.
We share our home with 2 dogs, Redd and Lola, 3 cats, Billy, Baxter, and Boo-Boo (aka: God's little mistake-he has issues) and one ball python named Mike, yes, we did resist the temptation to name him Monty.
All in all, life is good. So far it's been a wonderful journey!
It's probably time to update a bit here. I've now been working in the Emergency Room for four years and absolutely love it! I can't think of any job that I'd rather do! My son Max is now 16 and makes me proud everyday. Steve on the other hand ended up not being a keeper and I've been a single mom for a year now. I've now run 4 marathons, New York City being the last. Life is still a wonderful journey!
