Hector's Story

Life I was born in July 1968 in Puerto Rico. Joined the military shortly after starting college in 1986. Served six years in the US Army Intelligence Corps. After getting out of the Army in 1993, went back to Puerto Rico and started working for General Instrument. Once GI closed its doors in 1998, I moved to Texas, where I got a job with Nokia as an Engineering Tech. In 2001, I got a job with Raytheon, as an Electronic Technician... Graduated Magna Cum Laude from DeVry University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Technology. I plan to attend graduate school in the immediate future. For now, I am happy working for Lockheed-Martin as a Software Engineer. Soy Boricua 100% y extraño mi tierra! School I was kind of a rebel during my school years. Which might explained why I attended three different high schools. The list of Schools attended: Corsino Carvin (Elementary) Carvin (Jr. High) Academia Adventista (Intermedia) Carvin (High) Villa Fontana III (now Gilberto Concepcion de Gracia) Rexville (Superior) College I achieved the life long dream of being accepted at the University of Puerto Rico. I qualified and was accepted in the elite group "Los Cien" (the best 100 students from Natural Sciences admitted to the school that year). Shortly achieving all this, I decided to join the US Army and never returned to Rio Piedras, except to visit with Mendez (the guy in charge of the recreation center/student center). Attended "La Poli" for a little while in the mid 90s, but had to drop due to transportation problems (my car was a piece of junk). I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering Te...Expand for more
chnology from DeVry University and I am currently working on a Master of Science in Software Engineering at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Workplace Have worked for various companies since my discharge from the military in 1993: General Instrument (PR), Inc. Nokia Mobile Phones, Fort Worth, TX Wyle Electronics (a.k.a. Atlas) - Caguas, PR. Raytheon, Dallas (Expressway site - NB). Lockheed-Martin (Fort Worth, TX) Had the most fun at General Instrument. A lot of crazy individuals working in there. Enjoyed working all those special projects in San Diego (and slipping into TJ for nights of dancing and a "little" drinking). I love downtown San Diego... Currently working as Software Engineer. Lockheed-Martin has provided me with the opportunity to do what I envisioned before graduating. I am constantly learning new things and the people I work with are great. I plan to obtain a Master Degree in the near future. Military Served six years in the Army. The units I served with were: C Co., 527th MI Bn - 66th MI Bde (Worms Germany). TEMPEST Detachment, 902d Mi Group (VHFS, Warrenton, VA). HHC, 201st MI Bn - 513th MI Bde (VHFS, Warrenton VA). ALL the units I served with relocated, C Co relocated from Worms to Augsburg Germany; TEMPEST Detachment relocated from VHFS to Ft. Meade, MD; and the 201st relocated from VHFS to Ft. Gordon, GA, but I never had the chance to move with any of them. Every time they moved, they kicked me somewhere else. After the 201st I became a happy civilian. But I have to admit, I missed the Army life from time to time, ESPECIALLY those days at VHFS. I loved my time in Virginia.
