Heidi's Story

After graduation, I went to an art school in Miami,FL.. My grandfather was having health problems,so I left after one year and moved back to Florence. I worked at Red Lobster when it first opened, but had to quit after a year due to a car accident my mother and I were in. After about a year went by,I was able to start a new job at Salem Sportswear in Industrial Park and stayed there for three years until it was bought out by Fruit of the Loom and shut down. I dated, then moved in with a man I met while working at the factory. My son Montana was born in 1994 while we still lived in Florence. We moved to Georgia in 1996,and even got to see the Olympic Torch run. We then moved to Maine in 1997 to be near my father, but jobs there were not as plentiful in January of 1998,so we then moved to North Carolina, where my daughter Cierra was born in 1999. I was with the children's father for 10 1/2 years until he passed away in 2003. We never married. In 2005 while in North Carolina I met a Marine who was on terminal leave,in the...Expand for more
process of a honorable medical discharge. My kids and I have moved back to Alabama with him in 2005. We now live in a small town outside of Montgomery. I have been working at a Wal-Mart for 5 years now. I was leaving work the day the tornado came through Prattville in February of 2008. The picture of me standing by my overturned Tahoe made it to page 3 of USA Today, and one of my former neighbors from North Carloina who is still in the Marine Corps saw the picture on Fox News while in Afghanistan. I know when I first got to Rogers School, being the new kid, especially moving from California,it was a culture shock, but I enjoyed being in art class, and having Coach Brannon for Government and Economics. It was quite a shock when I was living in Georgia and finding out he had passed away. I came across my yearbook a few days ago and showed my daughter the picture of my hands with each nail painted a different color. I showed her that fad went WWAAAYYYY back. I hope everyone else is where they want to be in life. Heidi
