Helen's Story

Time to update my profile. Can't believe the members of the class of 66 have turned 70. I used to think 70 was old, but that has changed! I don't feel or think I look my idea of 70, especially when our grandparents were this age. I work out at the gym four or five days a week and take a yoga class. My husband and I have been married 45 years and have two great sons. They both married awesome women and they have given us a grandson and three granddaughters. We get lots of girl time and help with driving a third grader to school and have the three year old a few days a week. Our older son has a mechanical engineering degree and has been working in his field for almost 20 years. His son is 14 and excels in school. Our younger son took a slower path to his degree, but is now a first grade teacher. He is the dad of our girls. After GHS I went to Pierce College in Concord and took a one year secretarial course. I moved to Boston with Devon Young and we both got jobs at MIT. I was secretary to two biochemistry professors and after two years moved to Berkeley, California, for a year and worked in the Department of Microbiology at the University of California. Back to Boston and worked at a consulting firm for four years. ...Expand for more
During that time I met my husband, got married and took a job at Harvard Business School After Larry finished his mechanical engineering degree we moved to Greenville, NH, and he worked for a company in Milford for ten years before the company was sold to a company in Muskegon, Michigan, and he was one of the two people who were part of the deal. Our boys were nine and five at that time. After seven years in Muskegon, which is right on a Lake Michigan and a lovely place to live, we moved to the Detroit area for a better job. We've been here for 25 years. Nine years ago Larry's company closed the plant here and he was transferred to Wisconsin. We didn't want to relocate, so he lived in an apartment there and I stayed here. I was able to travel there for about a week each month and we made the most of his vacation time. After six years he was offered an early retirement and happily moved home. We enjoy our family and traveling. Our favorite warm weather vacation is to Aruba. We have been there several times. We have been to Vegas a number of times as we have good friends there. One of my dream trips is a river cruise in Europe and we're going to do that this summer. I guess that's enough for anyone to plow through!
