Helen's Story

After High School I worked for Illinois Bell and married John Kenny of Covington, In. We were married for 34 years, had four kids, and divorced. I remarried two years later, to Carl Bahls of Newport, In. (I always seemed to fall for those Indiana men!). We were married for 22 years when he passed away a year ago. I have two daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren! I am currently working part time at Target in Champaign, living in Savoy. I am a member of Kiwanis, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and enjoy a multitude of things. Travel, camping, books, especially by Steven King, Robin Cook, and Dean Koontz. I love going on cruises to exotic places, and just travel in general. l, and never get bored! I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right. But I got married instead and never did realize my goal in that direction. I worked in my husband's office for twenty years or more before we divorced. By then I was a Realtor and working in Champaign and Urbana. I retired from that in 1993 when my husband had cancer and needed me at home. Enjoy stopping by the V.FW. for a diet coke and visiting friends. Skipped school to go to the circus with a bunch of friends. In my work at Target I need to have a lot of patience in dealing with people day after day. A lot of screaming babies, etc. gets on my nerves sometimes.
