Helena's Story
I graduated from Rutgers in 87, and immediately moved to Chapel Hill, NC for grad school in English. I spent a lot of time going to Grateful Dead concerts (I lost count at 100).
I lived in Chapel Hill for the next 9 years, working as a chef, going to massage school and living on beautiful, rolling farmland, hearing owls and foxes all night! I moved to Denver in 1996 and was married in 1997. After having a baby girl, Lucie, in 2001, I moved to Miami and was divorced. I lived in Miami from 2002 to 2006, when I married my husband Aaron, we had a daughter, Cherise, and moved back...Expand for more
to Denver.
I've spent most of my time in creative pursuits--lots of theatre (before the kids came), painting and writing on metaphysics and spirituality for a number of magazines. My book reviews and essays have appeared in a number of publications, and my essays are included in 2 recent antholgies from Immanion Press.
I finished my Masters degree in African-American literature recently (my thesis was on Toni Morrison, the narrative of enslavement and trauma). I am currently working for a hospitality purchasing firm and hope to pursue my PhD when my daughters are a bit older.
