Hellevi's Story
I was the Finnish exchange student in Warren 63-64 . The year was very special for me in many ways. Most of all ,I quess , because on the way there travelling ten days on a ship across the Atlantic ,I met and got aquainted with another Finnish student ,who has now been my husband for over 40 years ! Those shipromances ! My year in Warren and in Harding made me a new person , I kind of grew older and found out ,that I can get through almost anything. It was¿nt always easy to move to another country and speak a different language ,which I had only studied for a few years and never spoken. Well ,you classmates helped me and made the year unforgettable. I got many friends ; one of them even visited us in Finland and we two still correspond regularly.

y hometown , to study at Helsinki University. I never ,however graduated since after getting married and two children I started a new carreer as a childdaycaremother , and have just retired after practicing that job for 36 years ! I don¿t know if that kind of care is known there ? I had 4 kids ,age from 7 months to mostly 6 ,sometimes even 8 years .They came to my home and I took care of them 8 to 9 hours on workdays;
made three meals every day. The parents payd me and got part of the fee from the state and city. I loved every moment and have got lifelong friends from some of the families. I had alltogether 47 kids here, some for as long as 8 years !
We have a daughter 37 of age ,who studied biology and works at the local zoo and a son ,32, who is a diplomaengineer as his father . no grandchildren so far.
We live in Vantaa ,a city next to Helsinki.In fact around Helsinki, our capital.
