Henry Darnell:  

After graduation I attended CCAD, The Columbus College of Art & Design. In 1982 I became the second employee of Bachman Design. After college I worked full time for Bachman and dreamed of moving to Los Angeles. I met Kathy Deal (North '78, '79) at a party in 1979 and she shared my dream. In 1985 Kathy and I married and planned our move to California. We drove across country and celebrated our first anniversary in Los Angeles. Kathy had no problem getting work at the JCPenneys in Glendale (25+ years). I started making calls. After almost a month I got an interview at a local scenic company. I was hired and went to work that afternoon. 24 hours later I finished my first day at Design Setters. My first job was a commercial for Barbie's Corvette but it lead to more commercials, theme park models and Academy award winning effects over ten years. I made special props, miniatures, characters and props for photographic FX . By 1996 the business was getting tough and I new I had to make the jump to the digital age and computers. My good friend offered me a position at Sony Pictures model shop. This job lead to a contract and work as a lead modeler and modeling supervisor on Stuart Little. We made his car, his boat and numerous miniatures and sets for the production. When Sony decided they wanted get out of practical FX they offered me a position at Sony Pictures Imageworks.
