Herbert's Story
From 2010 back,,
I worked at Ga Power for 33 years.
Started several recycling programs while there, aluminum cans, cardboard, white paper, wooden pallets, metals separation etc..
Member of the Ga Power P3 club, "Pollution Prevention Partners.
Joined the 3 Rivers Basin Init.
Researched and got GPC to buy the only
Supreme Court Approved water test kit, they were using a non-approved kit at the time.
Was the Co-Chairman of the Rome Div of the "Keep America Beautiful" for 5 years. This is where I got over my fear of public speaking.
One of the Founding Fathers of the Floyd Co
"Hazardous Household Recycle Day"
Active volunteer member with Floyd Co Police Trash Dumping spotters program.
Worked with Ga DNR about a decade regarding hazardous dumping and childhood abuse cases.
Made a local TV commercial regarding boat safety with DNR.
Worked with DOT/PSC on hazardous spillage on highways.
And US Army Corps of Engrs at Lake Alatoona regarding hazardous beach or shoreline conditions..
Distributed the latest rules & regs to boaters to minimize lake fatalities.
Member of the USAF Civil Air Patrol.
Saw numerious crash sites.
Witnessed the 2 F-105's that crashed at Berry.
Those jets had LIVE ammo, contrary to popular rumor, I saw belts of 20mm !
Bought some Jet-Ski's over the years, worked with my dealer to minimize exhaust emissions and oil spillage into waterways.

Shell Island always has Dolphins that come up to the boat begging.
Very Clean beautiful Water there..
Got into Snow Skiing, long time ago, since I was 25, went to Colorado countless trips on el-cheapo ski packages..
Favorite Mtns, Steamboat Springs and Copper MT.
Bought countless motorcycles over the years, back in the day 130mph and wheelies was my thing,
now slow back roads and no traffic behind me I go 25 !!
Guess my age is telling on me.
Spent countless hours traveling the Western US, mostly Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona by car.
A dozen trips by air resulted in 3 near disasters, the worst is when the pilot took off from ST Paul Minn with the flaps UP, the plane almost crashed as it escaped the "ground effect" he then overreved the engines and we barely missed an overpass.

Labor Day 1979, while returning from Hilton Head SC--
Had a near disaster in a small Beechcraft at Charlie Brown in Atlanta got us too near a Tornado.
Almost getting torn apart, then almost running out of gas finally landed at Peachtree Dekalb.
There were airplanes all over the taxiways flipped and wrecked.
Fearing much death, upon landing discovered wind speeds exceeded 100mph and this broke the hold downs and wrecked PARKED planes..
3 trips to border towns in Mexico has given me a new outlook on American Police,,, Thanks for the USA
Interested in Gold Dredging, however pitiful the reward has been so far.
I like to use a metal detector
Hike in dense forests
Listen to wildlife
I like to root through old abandoned house sites for antiques & junque ;}
I repair almost everything myself.
All the years at GPC exposed me to people who knew things about the most diverse items you could imagine..
I don't care for most sports, few sitcoms..
Married with Children is great.

Divorced, no Kids, no dependents..
I'm a sucker for sad stories, or used to be anyway..
