Jim (Herbert)'s Story
Life
MHS Graduation (Herbert Williams), started college (quit in 1966 when married), then 7 yrs active military duty USAF followed by 7 yrs in USAF RES. Went back to college on GI bill when discharged. Finished BS degree in 1979. Married same great gal for 42 yrs (1966), 2 daughters, 39 and 37, 3 grand daughters and one grandson (PAW-PAW's Angels and Little Man). Retired in Apr 2002 after 26 years in law enforcement. Now just doing what my wife puts on my honey do list, and she just retired in May 2007 so the list will likely grow, and loving my time with those grand children.
Would love to hear from any of my MHS classmates. Please send messages and I will be sure to reply. Life is too short and old friends should not be forgotten. Would be great to hear about what my classmates have been doing over these last 40 years.
College
Attended CJC while working full time at the Marianna Police Department. Was tough to work 10 hour night shift and take fulltime (15 hr) load but finally made it. Went on to complete my B.S.at Troy State University while still working at Marianna PD. Went on to work on my Masters Degree but my job got to be too demanding so I dropp...Expand for more
ed the Masters program two classes short of completion. Probably should have tried to finish the last courses and my paper but never went back. It all worked out for the best I'm sure. Drove to Troy State-Ft Rucker Branch campus four nights a week ater working a 10 hr day shift. Getting my AA and BS degrees was accomplished with no "campus" thrills or frills with a job, wife, and 2 children. Hard work and going to school strictly for education.
Workplace
1973-74 Communications Officer/Jailer with Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
1974-1980 Uniformed Patrol Officer with Marianna Police Department. Rank of Lt./Patrol Supervisor.
1981-2002 Director of Administration for Jackson County Sheriff's Office. Five yrs of which I remained as Florida certified law enforcement officer. Supervised all administrative staff and all administrative functions of the Sheriff's Office.
Military
Spent time TDY all over the Pacific theater during Vietnam. Was medical flight crew member on POW extractions into Hanoi at the end of war. Stationed in Texas, Florida, and California state side. Had a one year assignment in Hawaii. Military was a great experience. Builds character.
