Hewitt's Story

Life Graduate of Lake Fenton High School, Class of 1965. Teacher of algebra/history, band/choir, basketball and baseball coach at LFHS from 1972 to 2001. Retired Sep 2009 from teaching math and coaching basketball at Merritt Island, Florida HS. Currently working part-time at Lake Fenton HS in the math department, coaching basketball and baseball at LFHS. Wife Peggy Miller (Linden Class of 1970), proud parents of three great "kids": Jennifer (husband Brad Wright)-middle school teacher at Fenton; Jeff--former life-long student at SW Texas State, now a professional landscaper and proud father in North Carolina; and Julie Jo (husband Christopher Phillips)- foster mom, and full-time friend of most of the world. There are eight grandchildren: Jailen, Addy, Macy, Jonah, Joseph, James, Kingston, and Heaven. A UM band-alumnus, and played for 15 years in wedding reception bands, playing guitar and singing for fun and a good meal. I still enjoy being part of the "Elderly Brothers" with my good friend, Rick Shutes, with whom I have attended Lake Fenton Schools and college since 2nd grade. I enjoy travel, and working on reunion committee for my own class, and love to attend other LFHS reunions to see old friends. y retired from Florida and moved back to Lake Fenton to be near all the grandchildren. Recently honored by the Lake Fenton Community Schools Foundation with a Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to the school and community. We're in the Fenton phone book, and live on the north end of Lake Fenton. College University of Michigan Ann Arbor August 1965-April 1967 Member U-M Marching Band (tuba) and student manager of men's basketball team University of Michigan Flint August-December 1967 University of Michigan Flint January 1970-August 1972 BA Eastern Michigan University MA 1980 Freshman roommate: Eliot Drake (Ike) Evans of Long Island Sophomore roommates: Rick Shutes of Lake Fenton, Charles Dwan of St. Joseph, MI, and Chris Bugg of Piqua, OH Military Fort Knox, KY April to December 1968 An Khe and Bien Hoa, Vietnam January to December 1969 (SP5 Officer Records Clerk, First Cavalry) Met lifelong friends Hector Diaz (Miami/Atlanta), Joe Trupiano (Detroit/Chicago), and Pat Kurz (Chicago/Orlando) in Vietnam. Special friends are Randy and Janice Hoover, who often travel with us, and we love to spend time with my siblings-Phyllis, Jeanette, George and their families. My alter ego is my fellow "Elderly Brother," Rick Shutes, who still finds time to play guitar with me, and looks out for my health whenever we meet.
