Holly's Story

Life Born and raised in Playa del Rey, CA, I attended Paseo Del Rey Elementary; Orville Wright Jr. High, and graduated mid-term in January 1973 from Westchester H.S.! From about 4th grade through Orville Wright, I was actually in the Class of '72; then when the mid-semester thing changed, I was one of those who decided to stay back, thus re-joining the Class of '73, with which I started! (Confused? Hey, so was I ... ) After H.S., I attended U.C. Santa Cruz (where I later learned that Phillip Gueddemi, Sally Balakrishnan, and many other WHS alumni also went; I was in the infamous "unnamed College V" for the "really weird people who had no idea what they wanted to do"), then transferred to and graduated from Cal Poly, SLO, in Ornamental Horticulture. While at Cal Poly, I got married at 19, and had my only child, son Wesley, at age 21. Unfortunately, my marriage didn't work out, and by 23 I was divorced and a single parent which was tough, especially back then. But being responsible for my delightful little boy gave me courage and a fearlessness I never knew I had. My first "real job" besides waitressing and cocktail waitressing was as a manufacturer's rep for a soil amendment and fertilizer company based in Salinas, CA (E. B. Stone). I had 2 different sales territories for them calling on various nurseries and was only the 2nd woman to do that job. Several other sales/marketing jobs (with less travel) followed over the years, and I worked for large companies such as AT&T and Wells Fargo, and small companies, and ending up specializing in GSA sales (selling Steelcase office furnishings contracts to the government; working with designers, project managers and installers to create custom workspaces for the feds based upon their mission; my main clients back then were the FBI here in Sacramento and McClellan and Travis AFB's, back when that's what they were!). Very suddenly and unexpectedly, my son became extremely disabled by losing both kidneys and developing schizophrenia at age 18 (in 1995, right around the time the Internet was evolving). Because I then needed more flexibility to deal with his needs, I left my outside sales career and started my own Internet home-based business revolving around the beautiful Bengal and Savannah Cats that I bred for many years; hdw-inc.com . Wes had a kidney transplant which lasted 17 1/2 years, and is now back on dialysis. His spirit is incredible; I am so blessed that we still have a close, loving relationship, and that he is such a genuinely sweet soul, so accepting of everything that has happened to him. He is my "rock star". Nowadays, I'm pursuing my passion for photography (landscape and nature photography), and love to take road trips in my small motorhome to find those special shots. So basically yes ... I've become a starving artist!! And yes, you can certainly tell me to "take a hike", hehehe!! I've actually developed a special technique with my photography which (to me) is very spiritual and comforting ... so since everyone these days can take amazing photos with even just their cell phones, this is a little niche I've created in the field. I can create custom photographic "memorials", or "tributes", or whatever you want to call them ... for loved ones we've lost (people, pets), and even to promote healing within generations. It's just o...Expand for more
ne of several ways I try to show, through my photography and this technique, that all beings are part of nature. If you're interested .... hollywebberimages.com . Another recent interest is pursuing my heritage through Ancestry.com - since my family has become so small, I hope to meet some distant relatives some day and travel to places where my "roots" began. Believe it or not, I've traced one line all the way back to Constantinople (around 300 AD)! They also have a DNA kit through their site (no blood required; just some spit!) and they give you back exact percentages of the regions where you come from. I was amazed to learn that, having grown up wearing the "Davison plaid" of Scotland, I'm actually 41% Irish; 23% Scandinavian; 18% Europe West (such as Spain, France, Germany, Portugal, Holland, Austria, etc.); 13% Italy/Greece, and 2% Finland/Northwest Russia!! We sold the family home in Playa del Rey in 2012 (I grew up on Calabar Ave), and I do miss the ocean like crazy, I have to confess. I've lived in the Sacramento area for the past 25 years, and in 2008 moved east of Sacramento to the "baby foothills" town of Cameron Park (aka Shingle Springs) off Hwy 50, located between Folsom and Placerville, about 1 1/2 hours from Lake Tahoe. I still wear and love peasant blouses, dangling earrings and fringed purses ... say, did you ladies know that Carlos Santana has a women's clothing/accessory line of oustanding fringe purses and boots? Who woulda thought ... One of these days, I'll get a Facebook page like most everyone else has! Until then, I'll try to do better at checking in here at Classmates.com, which I joined so that people could find me, and me them! I just want to say that I wish everyone from my class(es) all the best, and no matter where our lives have led us since WHS, we will always share things that cannot have any price tag on them ... even if we didn't know each other well. We grew up in the same era; the same area; with so many of the same influences; we knew so many of the same people. That gives us a special bond, at a time when we were all, in many ways, our "true" selves (even if we were still in the "development stages") ... before we had major responsibilities and took on different roles as wifes, husbands, fathers, mothers, full-time employees, employers, etc. I would love to hear from any of you who might remember me. And, I regret not being able to attend our recent 40th reunion; however, I wish to thank the still gorgeous and forever amazingly talented Cheryl Henry Perry for organizing the mini-reunion for the Northern CA group this June 29, 2014 in Sonoma! What a wonderful time! It was awesome to see everyone there (who all looked fantastic, and are still the vibrant, intelligent people I remember - I won't be able to name everyone, but I saw Sally, Janet, Cheryl, Missy, Mark and his wife, John, Dave, Ted, and there were many more; it was a great turnout!) and I was truly honored to be able to participate. In addition to Cheryl and everyone who did attend, I want to say a special thank you to Phillip Gueddemi and his lovely wife Kara for encouraging me to go, and in fact, to drive there with me! For anyone planning a trip through the Sacramento area and/or heading out towards Lake Tahoe, please give me a holler! With love and fondness, Holly Davison (Webber)
