Holly's Story
Workplace
My chosen field - accounting - would not have prepared me to have a career looking after children. But due to my child becoming ill and wanting to be able to stay at home with him, that's the direction in which my life had changed , and I have been doing this for 20 years now.
I have a contract with an agency to provide childcare in my home, and in my now 20 years I have enjoyed looking after more than 70 children.
And though it is not what I set out to do with my life, it has turned out to be one of the best decisio...Expand for more
ns I could have made. As for my original plans to become an accountant, I still use skills, but it is for my own business finances instead of for others.
Now when I take classes in college, it's "Infant and Toddler Curriculum" or "Child Psychology" instead of "Finance Management" or "Marketing".
So, know matter how much we prepare ourselves for life out there, circumstances change, things happen, and the roads we expected to go down may not always be the same ones we end up travelling. Just go for it and enjoy it while you can!!
