Holly's Story

Life This bio will be a work in progress, so let me get down to a few facts. After my folks passed away, I moved out to the mountains in the northwest corner of Colorado in 1998. An extreme sensory change from our hot, steamy climate, it's dry and much cooler. I love it out here! Big snow country. 6 to 7 months of winter every year, we had 438" (or 36.5 feet) for the 2005/2006 season. A 4 string winter for sure, relating to which wire the snow covers on the fences. Our summer temps are usually high in the 80-90's and lows in the 40's at night. No humidity. Winter temps?... well let's just say 40 would be warm for a high and we really only have a week of minus 45's where gas in the deisel truck gaslines can turn to jelly. But it's a dry cold. We eat alot of soups, chili and homemade breads out here. Future predictions of the coming season are still considered by the height of the Skunk Cabbage. It's one of many charming local legends rooted in Ute Indian and old Cowboy history. Spring, summer and fall are my favorite times. I bought a little house on a couple acres in the town of Clark which borders the Zirkel Wilderness area and is 20 or so miles north of Steamboat Springs. There's nothing much between home and town except horses, cows, elk & deer, fox, a few eagles and the occasional bear, moose or ranch. There are 2 bar/...Expand for more
restaurants in Clark and we have a 7-11 sized building that's our gas station, library, deli, post office, liquor store, bait shop, and ice cream parlour all in one. (You get used to it.) There's approximately 20k people in all of Routt county. I currently have 3 cats and a 1 year old Brussels Griffon that keep me busy. We're above the flea line - who knew there was such a thing - and it's nice that they don't suffer like they did down south. Up at elevation 8295' we don't get tv reception, so I've become a dvd junkie, taught myself to crochet and hear the news on the radio in the way in to work in the morning. I figure someone will call me if something important happens. I'm an Office Manager at the Century 21 Ski Town Real Estate office and yes, I do have my license. I love trout fishing, and camping. I play with my friends horses and generally enjoy this laid back lifestyle. Steamboat Springs moves at it's own slower pace. We have 2 grocery stores and a Walmart, maybe 10 stop lights. Lots of gift and specialty mountain resort town gift and ski shops, and restaurants. Home Depot (which I miss) is in Denver 4 hours away. I occasionally think of the FL days, and even further back to highschool as I see my friends kids going thru what we did. E-mail me if you like. It would be nice to hear from you. Take Care - Holly
