Holly's Story

Initial posting: 8/11/2008 I guess I should put something in here, since it seems people are looking....how rude of me not to have before now. With our 20 year reunion fast approaching, I guess people are looking into old acquaintances. I got married in 2006, gave birth to our daughter Athena in 2007 - she's now 18 months old. I have an 8 yr old stepdaughter - Zoe. My husband, Russ, and I own our own business which for now we run out of our home - we're hopeful to be able to move to an office within 2 years if our current success continues. As for what that business does.....complicated. :) Russ works on pollution abatement equipment - he does the site work, both mechanical and computer, and I run the business end - all the less-than-glamourous stuff that a disorganized hands-on person like my husband couldn't handle. We're doing very well, and have high hopes for the future. I'm massively overworked, between being a stay-at-home mom (sorta) and a business manager dealing with multi-million dollar corporations, an avid gardener whose gardens are always overtaken by weeds due to lack of time, and a large house and property to look after. oh, and primary liason with our patent attorney, business attorney, and family law attorney (my husband's ex is a Piece Of Work). as for the further past....I went off to college once upon a time, got a BS in Classics, went on to Graduate school at University at Buffalo, almost finished an MA and PhD in Classical Archaeology, but fried during my 3rd year. I spent summers in Greece, Egypt and Turkey, sometimes as a tourist, sometimes on a dig (which is where I was during the 10 year...Expand for more
reunion). I spent 6 years on staff at an archaeological dig in central Turkey (98 to 2004) and my director still asks me when I'm coming back. I hope to, if/when our company takes off and I have the money to take a couple of months off and have someone keep the kids....or pay for a nanny to come along. HA! that'll be the day! I know 7 languages - english, turkish, ancient greek, latin, modern greek, french, german...and a smattering of hungarian, slovak, I used to read ancient egyptian hieroglyphs and Linear B. Book larnin - rots the brain. At one point in my past I had an ex who followed me across 3 states and who has a police file in Smith Township. I moved back to Alliance in 2002 primarily because i had a chance to take over the family farm house, and could transfer jobs in order to do it. Between the much lower cost of living here, and a free 4-bedroom farmhouse, the decision was really a no-brainer. My husband and kids and I live on the farm on state street, much to my personal joy (and torture...man this place is a lot of work!) At various times in my checkered past I've been a Library Tech, a resource editor for academic books, a Teaching Assistant (taught Latin, ancient civ, medical terminology, etc.) a high school teacher (latin), a archaeological foreman, an executive assistant to VP of marketing (now THAT job sucked), a loan processor (REALLY sucked), a landscape foreman (loved that one, man i was svelte...), tech services assistant for a haz waste corp (great money, low-key office, pecker for a boss), and loader operator/manager of a landscape supply store. I guess that's plenty to catch everyone up.
