Howard's Story

Life How do you cram over 40 years into a small space like this. Maybe using bullets will make it easier. Will cover college & workplace in the other headings. • Graduated from Bradley 1969 • Married Judi (who grew up in Galesburg and who I met at the College Inn in Peoria on 15 cent night) 1969. • Lived in Buffalo Grove til 1971 and bought first house in Lake Zurich. • Had two kids and had a new house built in Lake Zurich 1971. • My employer transferred me to Columbus, Ohio (go Buckeyes) in 1986. • Adopted 3 kids (sibllng group) in 1995. • Wife passed away. Definitely had my hands full with work, home, and kids. Found Christ who has helped indeterminately during those times. Granddaughter born 1999. • Have not remarried. Have had exactly one date since my wife passed. Responsibilities and no time for a relationship I suppose. Have not really come across anyone who has turned my head (at least who is available). Computer dating scares me ( too many crazies out there and too many materialistic women on line). When God is ready for it to happen it will. Til then?.... School Oh my! Let me list them here too. First date, first kiss, first...(not going there), first car with no heat. Had to leave it running where ever I went to make sure I could get home. Sock hops after the basketball games, friday night football games, gymnastics, parties, sitting in English when the Kennedy assassination was announced, open house parties, working at the Mobil gas station at the corner of Palatine Rd and Nortwest Highway. Graduation. I'll add more later when I think of some. Workplace • Worked at Underwriter's Labs in...Expand for more
Northbrook as a test engineer after college for a couple of years. • Switched jobs for more $ to Automatic Electric in Northlake as a component reliability engineer. Stayed there for about 8 years. • Made the move to electronic component sales for Sprague Electric out of Park Ridge. Sprague closed the Chicago Office and moved me to Columbus, Ohio in 1986. Kept that office open for a couple of years and then switch to manufacturers reps across the board. Lots job switching after that. Worked for a manufacturer's rep, Topfilight, Kemet Electroics, Hughes Peters. RoboTech Inc.. Then in 1997, I decided, enough with the back stabbing sales at any cost crap and when to work for a small graphic design house to sell, duh, graphic design. As it turned out, I started doing little bits and pieces of design for them when they got very busy to the point where I'm doing graphic design for them full time now. I taught myself how to use all the professional software and am producing newspapers, magazines, posters, business directories, junk mail (sorry-someone's gotta do it), logos websites etc. What's best about it all is that it has allowed me to work from home. As a widower, it's been a God send. Business owners have been very accommodating when I need time for kids school conferences, doctor's appointments, kid's sick days, etc. The job doesn't pay much but there are more important things in life that material things (like happiness, no job stress, being there when the kids need me etc). That's it in a nutshell. Military Snuck by without having to go. School and working for Underwriter's Labs got me the necessary deferments.

So here is the Nativity set my wife bought one piece at a time from Avon back in the early 80s. I made the barn to make it more realistic looking. I like the set for two reasons. One is to be reminded of the true reason for

Since moving to Florida I have seen tons of neat cloud formations but this one took the cake yesterday....
I do love mushrooms but there's something especially appealing about these.
I wouldn't have to guess where this came from!
After my first fish with dad, circa 1948.
