Howard's Story
Joined the Marines after High School... Went to Aviation Electronics School and was stationed in Miami, Florida working on transport aircraft until 1959. Got out of the Corps and spent a couple of unproductive years back in New Ken. I was recalled to active duty in 1961 due to a shortage of Avionics Techs and was sent to El Toro, California. I spent the greater part of the next 2 years on and off the aircraft carrier Oriskany (now the worlds largest artificial reef off the coast of Florida). I got out again in 1963 and went to work at LTV in Anaheim as a Tech Writer. I spent 4 years writing installation and maintenance manuals for the Stanford Linear Accelerator power supplies. Went to night school from 1958 to 1967 working on a degree in electrical engineering (didn't get it - gave up on it in 67). I...Expand for more
went to work for 3M in 67 writing sales literature. I was promoted to Advertising Manager in 1969 and spent the next 8 years living the good life. I got totally burned out with the whole thing in 1977, took my profit sharing, and bought a motorcycle shop in Anaheim for therapy. I got tired of that in 1982 and went to work for a year as an electrical construction manager in Saudi Arabia oil refineries. I returned to the states in 1983 and got involved in the newly emerging Ultralight (motorcycles with wings) Industry for the next 3 years. In 1985, I took a good long look at my past ramblings and decided that it was time to settle down and prepare for old age. At the prodding by an old Marine from my Miami days I embarked on my current career as a Real Estate Appraiser; 30 years at one thing.... WOW...
