Hoyt's Story
My story:
I was born in the mountains of north Georgia and grew up in a tiny town called Morganton. I went to elementary school there and almost went to high school at East Fannin but the family moved to Maryland in 1960. I went to John Hanson Junior High for one year and then to Oxon Hill High School in my sophmore year.
I graduated from OHHS in 64, went to PGCC and then to UMD. I pulled a bad GPO and was drafted into the Army in 1966. I had BT at Fort Jackson,SC and AIT at Fort Dix,NJ. I was shipped to Korea in 67 and returned to Fort Hood in 68. I went back to school and got an AA from PGCC and a BA from UMD in 1971. I went to Woodstock in 1969 with John Enterline, Larry Barther, Cy Creveling, Ann Grove, Michael Marr and others.
After college John and I hitchhiked to California and then back to Maryland in the Fall. I worked at Xerox Bibliographics for ...Expand for more
a while and then with the US Post Office from 1972 to 1977. I went to graduate school at the University of South Florida, Tampa from 77 to 78, got an MLS and then moved to Phoenix AZ for six or seven months. I returned to Maryland, worked at the National Medical Advisory Service for a bit and then took a job in the Panama Canal Zone. I was in Panama from 1980 to 1984.
I returned to Maryland and became the Director of the Walter Reed Medical Library. I was there until 2001 when I became the Director Information Resources at US Customs and Border Protection. I retired from Customs in 2008. During all of this I married, late in life, to Lydia Sugihara in 1986. I have a son, Patrick Sugihara Galloway, who just turned 18 in 2009. I also have a stepson Richie Metcalfe and a daughter in-law, Jenny Kay. I live in Enterprise Estates in Bowie in a house by a forest.
