Hugh's Story
Life
I have been living for four years on the east coast of Florida after 22 years at Verountry Up until recently I was the General Manager of the Eau Gallie Yacht Club and I have been working in the hospitality industry my entire adult life, having graduated from Michigan State with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
For the last 39 years I have been married to my wife Barbara, who is originally from Miami. We have two children Jim & Jessica 30. Jim graduated from Florida State and was on their varsity track team. Jim is married to Meredith who was also a varsity runner at FSU. He is still a dedicated distance runner.and is living in Vero Beach Florida where he and his wife are managing a running store owned by her father. Jessica also graduated from Florida State and lives in Atlanta., and manages commercial properties. She was married in 2017 April to Tom Drewer who is from Australia and races and merchandises Indy and other classes of specialty race cars.
I rarely visit Detroit as I have no family there anymore. Both of my parents have passed away, my mother in 1999 and my father in 2000. My brothers Peter and Mark both live in Chicago, and my sister Gretchen lives in Minneapolis..

sic (I have a very large collection of albums and cd's),and cars especially hot rods
In the Fall of 2003 I was hit with a mild heart attack and cancer within 40 days of each other. With surgery and radiation treatments I thankfully survived the cancer. However I have been dealing with Parkinson's Disease for 14 years now. So far it is only on my left side, and with lots of drugs it is somewhat managable. Some days are better than others but I take it as it comes
Now that my wife and I are "empty nesters" we will continue to travel more and enjoy life together. Our favorite place is our time share is Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands and best time recently was driving Route 66 from Missouri to Las Vegas. After living most of my adult life in the South (Atlanta for 13 years and Florida for 25 years) you could say that I have become a warm weather person. I now think of 50 degrees as "cold" and 85-90 degrees as being "average". We get our occasional hurricane scare but every place in the USA has its weather hazards.
In closing I want to give a shout out to my lifelong friend David Keskinen who died in July 2013. Dave was a great friend and there was no limit to what he would do for you. Those who knew him understood that about him. I miss him terribly. May he rest in peace
