Ike's Story
Life
My home is currently just off the 15th green at Holiday Hills Country Club in Mineral Wells, TX. My beautiful daughter, My son, J.R. is a manager at Orlando's in Lubbock. My daughter Amy and son-in-law, Raymond Kite live in Mineral Wells and are parents to my grandson, Kayson Lee. That's right...I'm a proud grandfathter!
My wife, Karen is a gorgeous, caring, intelligent, fun loving person. We enjoy playing golf, socialing with friends, and basically just love being with each other. Karen is a personal banker for citibank in Mineral Wells.
I sing and play rhythm guitar and mandolin for The Cross Country Band. We are a traditional country and Christian country band that enjoy playing around the north central Texas area. I also enjoy singing with my church choir. When inspired to do so, I have also been known to write a song or two.
School
I attended elementary school, junior high and high school in Bowie, graduating in 1971.
My most memorable times in high school were spent with my great friends, Lee Carriker, Steve Jett, Billy Bankston, Richard Koonce, David Bodling, Mike Martin, Gay Brown, Beckie Wilson, Barbara Wilson, Beverly Garrett, Ann O'Neal, and Carol Warner. Trips and football games with the High School Band were always a "hoot". Steve Jett, Gary Williams, Phillip Peters, Tom Hargrove and I also enjoyed playing in our band "Blackstone" at the dances.
Halloween was always fun...Still don't know how we all didn't end up behind behind bars!
College
My first experience of college life was at the UTA in Arlington, Texas. Didn't get much studying done or much of a continued education. Ended up completing about 66 hours.
After ...Expand for more
settling down with a job and a family, I began classes at Weatherford College and received my Associate's Degree in Arts and Sciences in 1990.
I then went on to Tarleton University in Stephenville and received my Bachelor's Degree in Applied Arts and Sciences in 1993.
Workplace
While attending high school in Bowie, I worked at Heard's Hardware, worked as a lifeguard at the Top O' the Lake Country Club, and worked as an assistant ranger at the Boy Scout camp.
In 1972, I began working at the First National Bank in Arlington, Texas. During my two years there, I worked as mail clerk, customer service clerk, teller and supervisor of proof and transit.
In 1974, Halliburton Resource Management (HRM - a gas compression leasing entity for Halliburton Company) in Dallas offered me a position as Senior Buyer. While in Dallas, I also worked Dallas Division Accountant and Sales Representative. In 1980, HRM transferred me to Mineral Wells where I assumed responsbilites as Administrative Manager for the Service Center there. Later I became the Service Center Manager and then Compression Services Manager. In 1995, Halliburton sold its gas compression services to its biggest competitor, Tidewater Compression Services. I worked for Tidewater as Service Center Manager then Parts Manager until 1997.
In 1997, Perry Equipment (PECO) in Mineral Wells was my next career move. I worked there as a Buyer and as an Applications Engineer until 1998.
From then until the present, I have enjoyed working for Southwire, a manufacturer of insulated copper wire. I am currently Materials Manager and have purchasing, production planning, scheduling, and inventory responsibilities.
