Ila's Story
Hi Everyone,
I spent most of my post-Banning years in California and worked as an admin. asst. in many fields. My last (and best) job in California was as assistant to the CEO and Chairman of several restaurant chains including El Torito, Coco's, Carrows, Chi-Chi's, and Koo-Koo-Roo.
I married twice when I was young (Jerry Miskey and Bob Foley) but have been single since 1972.
I left California and moved to Broomfield, CO in 2000 where I worked for Sandoz Pharmaceuticals for two years. Then in 2003 I retired and moved to a small farming town in SW Nebraska to be near my daughter and grandson. She married a rancher/farmer and I live only 4 miles from them.
Boy, ranch life is sure different from life in good old So. California, but our yearly calf round-ups/brandings are a lot of fun. I don't think I'll ever get used to our hailstorms and tornados and often 100+ degree heat in the summertime, but the good...Expand for more
thing is that we have no traffic, I have wonderful neighbors, and life moves much more slowly here. Our little town is so small everything I need is within about 4 blocks of my 103-year-old home (grocery store, bank, library, movie theater, post office, ice cream/snack shop, doctor's office, gas station). And our favorite pastime is going to estate auctions and looking for antiques and treasures.
My life has had a lot of ups and downs but I've been blessed with 3 children (Marc in CO, 49; Robin in NE, 48; and Michael in WY, 43) and 4 beautiful grandchildren (Garrett, 4; Christen, 6; Joie, 8; and Christopher, 8) and have taken 8 incredible trips to NE India, where I now have many friends and adopted family.
I can't believe it's been 50 years since Banning--seems almost like yesterday, doesn't it? I'd love to hear how life has treated you and do hope you'll send an email and say hi.
