Ingrid's Story
Life has taken me for a lot of turns, so I'll keep short and sweet (well not always). I lived with my now exhusband in NY at the very edge of what became the lockdown zone. 9/11 changed everything and hit too close to home, literally. I was working in the Chrystler building for a health insurance company. Friends helped to get myself and Michael out of the city. After much clean up, home was just different. Michael and I decided to leave. We planned a bike trip through the west for a summer. At the end of it I had a job lined up. Unfortunately, the trip only lasted one day. My bicycle hit a rough patch and went into a torque. The bicycle flipped landed on me and dragged me 15 yards. So I am told. Not much memory of it and that is fine. I had cracked my skull on the memory side, fractured a hip and broke an ankle. This changed my life in a way I ...Expand for more
never expected and am now grateful for. You see I am fine, doing triatholons and other races. I came to and realised I was not a vegetable with hope of walking, moving my right arm again and maybe a memory that could remember from one moment to the next. Hope was enough for me and I was smiling through most of my recovery, which took place in Santa Fe, NM. Once I was back to some kind of normalcy we moved to Austin, TX and I love it. Have run into an old friend from college here and have found a great support system here. This has become truly my home, a community that I love and give back to. There is more, such as I had my own business running an alternative type of convenience store here in Austin. To keep it short I will let you know I prefer being a personal chef and am working towards being able to that full time again in the near future.
