Irene (Rene)'s Story
My Life...
I graduated Syosset High School in 1966 with a
Scientific Diploma, attended CW Post College for
a semester, then got married, had 2 children and
moved to Long Beach, NY for 2 years. In 1970
my husband, 2 sons and I moved to
Huntington Beach, CA. We had young idealistic
longings and were on our way to start a life in
Maui, Hawaii enjoying the beach, sun and surf
but discovered that it was much too expensive
to live there and thus settled in H.B., CA as
second choice. I love it here!
We raised our boys at the beach with surfing,
swimming, camping, soccer and lots of other
sports. My love was High Sierra camping and hiking so we pursued it every time we could. I always
desired to back pack from Mexico to Canada
in the "Colorado Rocky Mountain High", but never
quite got the chance. (I couldn't now...I need a
knee replacement...ugh.) Tent camping was
abundant though. I love the outdoors and nature.
Teaching had always been a passion for me so in
1975 I became and Instructional Aide for 2nd
and 3rd graders at my sons' school, at the same
time attending Golden West College for a
teaching credential, th...Expand for more
ough I never fully
completed that schooling as we needed a second
income immediately. Henceforth, in 1978 I
began studies in Cosmetology at Golden West
College that would take just one year.
I completed the course at the top of my class
and worked doing hair for 17 years. I desired
owning my own salon so in 1996 I built and
opened Mane Moves & Body Works , an 18
station full service salon right here in H.B. where
I live and currently still do hair (30 years now). Golden West College selected me to be the first Cosmetology
student to receive "The Pillar of Achievement"
award in 1998 My Plague is displayed at the
college today. In 2004 I took a class for
Permanent Cosmetics, I love giving that service and have also started
teaching this at two local Academies.
I am a grandma of 3 and love it the most!
My grandkids love to spend the nights with me
often, we have great times.
I've been single since 1988 enjoying my own
time, attending my church and enjoying
family and friends.
These were some highlights of my life.
I would love to hear about your life now and
how you are doing. Life is amazing.
God Bless,
Rene
