Irene's Story

Life One of the most important accomplishment was my marriage to John which lasted 44 years. (No one thought we'd last a year!) We had two lovely daughters who have each accomplished much on their own, with happy marriages and great kids; Kathy has 4 boys and Kim has 2 boys and 1 girl. We lived in Whittier until 1989, then moved to Rancho Cucamonga to a home at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains. My husband passed away in 2005, so I'm adjusting to being single. While the grandkids were growing up, we spent most weekends at Soccer games since all of them played in "Club Soccer" teams. My oldest grandson graduated from Florida State University, with honors, received his MBA from Claremont Graduate School and now works for Edison. My only granddaughter attended UC Berkley and now has a great job with Applied Medical currently working in the Nederlands, with the others graduating from CalState San Bernardino & UC Santa Barbara. From a career perspective, I started working at Bank of America after high school graduaton and retired in June, 2005. I'm a 25 year Breast Cancer survivor which remains a major milestone in my life. Overall, I have much to be thankful for in life. Since the death of my husband and my retirement, I have been adjusting to my new life. I decided to remodel my home, which turned out to be a full-time job in of itself. I also decided to take up Bowling again, which my husband & I did when we lived in Whittier. Bowling has turned out to be a major activity resulting in many new friendships and a lot of fun. I travel to many cities participating in various Bowling Tournaments. Of course, my family continues to represent the most important part of my life with their ongoing support. School I really enjoyed my years at El Rancho. Loved the Drill Team and all of the friends I made as a result, plus we had Miss Hagler to guide u...Expand for more
s. She was great and good friend to us all. I enjoyed working on the Yearbook Staff and Girl's Council, but who could ever forget the Sock Hops in the Gym and dancing to "Tequila". Those four years went by in a flash, although at the time the days did seem to just drag on and on. Memories!! I guess that is why we look forward to the reunions, to see old friends and remember. College College is truely a blur. I started, stopped, started and stopped. Between working, raising my daughters and trying to go to school, there was very little time for it all. You can guess what suffered, school. My family first, then work and time permiting some studying. As a result, I was never able to put it all together to finish. I still consider my life-priorities in the same order, although now I have time to take some classes, but choose to not do it. Now I just want to take work out of the list, and enjoy my family even more. Workplace I started working at the Bank right after graduation as a result of winning the Bank of America Achievement Award in High School. I started out as a clerk steno and over the years worked my way thru the ranks to management positions from Department Manager to Group Vice President responsible for staff located in various cities across the U.S. I traveled a great deal with the Bank, having visited many US cities, plus cities/countries overseas like London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Mexico and Canada. I survived four Bank mergers, participating in consolidation activities for most of them. Retirement became a reality in 2005. I had a great career, but more importantly, I was able to fit in a happy marriage, raise two daughters and spoil 7 grandkids. A busy but happy life! The next phase is to enjoy the upcoming birth of my first Great Grandson. I really look forward to that event and to spoil & love the next generation.
