Airynaa's Story

G'Day from Downunder, Since graduating in 1959, my life has been a challenging, interesting and wonderful journey. I worked as an administrative assistant at Santa Cruz Land Title and First American Title Company in Santa Cruz for 7 years. In 1967, I married Bill Cook, and in 1970 we sold our home in Aptos and moved to Sandpoint, Idaho. We wanted to live a more rural life up in the mountains so we could raise a family. After our move to Sandpoint, Idaho, we worked for a Big Game Outfitter....Bill an assistant hunting guide, and I the camp cook!! In 1972 Bill suffered a severe accident which meant I needed to earn an income to support my totally disabled husband and a child on the way. I converted our two storey home, which was located in the middle of Sandpoint, into a boutique art and gift shop and called it "The Pine Tree". I painted small paintings on driftwood gathered from Lake Pend Orielle, learned to make candles, taught some art and crafts, and took other artisian's works on consignment. It was the first art gallery/boutique shop of its kind in Sandpoint, and now Sandpoint has a very active artists' community with a number of galleries and boutiques. Through various events, and later the death of Bill, I found myself in Calgary, Canada where I met Carsen who had a chiropractic practice. In 1979 we were married at Banff, Canada and I changed my name from Irene Blair Cook to Airynaa Tannberg. I assisted Carsen in his practice in Canada, and then we sold, travelled in our motorhome for a couple of years, and ended up in Calabasas, California near Malibu. I worked as an administrative assistant with Howard Hughes Research Labs in Malibu, and later with Becton-Dickinson Pharmaceutical Company. Carsen and I, with my son Hans, then travelled to Germany in 1984 where we worked in a medical center near Munich. In 1987 we decided to move to Sydney, Australia wherein we set up a chiropractic clinic. Carsen and I are still very actively involved in our clinic here in Australia. anker with Deutsche Bank in Sydney and has recently moved to London for two years. I have had a wonderful 30 years with Carsen. We have seen a bit of the world, and have taken many courses together including a couple of Anthony Robbins' firewalks. In 1998, I went back to college and received my Fine Arts Diploma, and have since become a professional artist with several very successful solo shows, and my paintings are in various galleries in Australia. My other interest is import/exporting unique craft items made by the indigenuous people living in the Andes of Ecuador and bringing them back to Australia to sell. My main interest is learning as much as possible about alternative and holistic healing. Also I enjoy swimming in the ocean fed olympic size pool several times per week including in the winter when the water temperatures drop down to the 50s and I still do a bit of jogging which has been a long term passion. For much of my life up until about 9 years ago I had a pronounced stutter. This impacted upon my years in school and high school quite severely. Upon hearing about the McGuire Program for stutters, I enrolled in the 4 day intensive course which is taught only by stutters. By the 4th day we were able to make public speeches down by the Opera House (you have probably seen the Opera House in pictures) in Sydney from a microphone to a crowd of people. From 3 days before of not being able to fluently say my name to giving a public speech on a soapbox it was simply awesome! After the McGuire Course I joined Toastmasters and received my Certificate for 10 speeches. I am also a certified coach for McGuire assisting with the courses and the new people that attend each year. Also we have a furkid named Charlie that shares his life with us. He is an adorable Airedale Terrier and loves to go for early morning runs along the beach. I would surely enjoy being at the 50th anniversary in October of 2009. In the meantime would love to hear from you and learn what you have been up to. Cherio, Airynaa P. S. You may type "Airynaa" in Yahoo or Google and pull up some of the art from my websites.
