(Jewel) Iris's Story
Life
After finishing High School I went to St.Johns University. I had a blast there. After a year I decided to join the navy. I met a ton of great people in along the way. I was able to experience things I would have not have had the opportunity to do if I had stayed in the Bronx. I have two beautiful children that mean the world to me. Recently I have made the decision to go back to school. Being a stay at home for 7 years has put that on hold. So I am glad to be back on track. I do miss my friends from New York. I am also glad to have the opportunity to keep in contact recently with a special person. :)
College
I attended St.John's University from 1992-1993. Then I decided to join the navy. After the navy I went to Missisippi Gulf Coast Community College. I stopped to have kids and be a full time mom. Now that my youngest is 2. I started school again this fall to finish my degree in social work.
I am almost done with my bachelor's degree finally!!! I graduate in the spring of 07'...Expand for more
. Then, I will begin graduate school for Marriage, Family, and Child Couseling. I am very excited to be able to finally realize my dream's.
Military
Well I joined the Navy in 1993. I went to bootcamp in Orlando, Florida; which at the present time no longer exist. Following bootcamp, I continued onto to "A" school at Hospital Corpsman School in Great Lakes IL. That is where I had the time of my life. At first, it was difficult being away from my family and friends and leaving New York. However, as time went on I created new memories and slowly let go of the bad memories New York had and held on tight to the cherished memories. Unfortunately, shortly after my 21st b-day I left New York for good and have not been back since. The military has given me diversity and challenges along the way. I ended my military career only 3 short years and was honarably discharged. :) I do miss some of my friends that I have lost contact with and would love to hear from them. All of them. They know me by Jewel. :)
