Irma's Story
I've lived in Marrero, LA. for the past fifty-two years. I have four handsome sons and two beautiful daughters. I have 15 precious grandchildren, 20 adorable great grandchildren and 1 great grandchild on the way. I took an early semi-retirement due to a back injury. I love cooking, gardening, swimming and laying out by the pool, antique shopping, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.
I always wanted to be a poet or writer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a silly idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.
I blow off steam by chillin with a glass of wine by our pool or going for a long drive.
The wildest thing I ever did in school was skip out to meet my boyfriend and secretly spend the day at my sister's new apartment.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have music, diet coke, and a good sense of humor to be able to deal with the day-to-day issues.
My heroes have and will always be my loving parents. All though they are no longer he...Expand for more
re, their values will always be deeply instilled in my heart, mind and soul.
My current age is 69 and holding. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be OLD. I was so completely wrong.
I think everyone at my high school reunion would be surprised at the amount of grandchildren I have. My kids are like rabbits. They keep multiplying. LOL
My first job was at Kent's Dollar Store in Marrero, where I got paid ninety cents an hour to be a sales lady. What I remember most about it was payday. I had a whole $18.50 to spend.. LOL
A childhood memory I will never forget is going to the old Gordon Theater on Fourth Street in Westwego. For a quarter you could see a Sunday Matinee double feature, get a box of popcorn, a coke, a pickle and share a seat built for two with your favorite guy. Good times !!!
There is not one thing that I would like to do over. Life is a lesson to be learned and lived. My life's journey has made me the person I am today. I wouldn't change a thing.
