Iva Paiz:

CLASS OF 1960
Moab, UT

Iva's Story

I moved from Moab for the last time after I received my degree in elementary education from USU in 1986 I though I would move back to Utah after about 5 years or so, but I was wrong. I think I know more people in the cementary now, than in town. My first teaching position was at a state training school for the profound and severly handicapped adults. I really enjoyed the eleven years I worked the the training school. After the school closed, I worked in public school for five years and then on two different Native American reservations. St. Anthony's Indian Mission School at Zuni was very interesting. It is operated by the Catholic Church and I attended Mass twice a week!! Now for an old agnostic like myself, that was dedication! A couple of years ago, I caught a virus which effected my lungs. Now I have to haul around an oxgyen tank where ever I go. It was just too difficult chasing a special ed 2nd grader around the playground when it was time to return to class. One fourth grade class even made book on where on not I would be able to catc...Expand for more
h her. ( I did). At the end of that school year I retired. Although retired, my favorite indoor activity is babysitting grandbabies. I have aquired quite a family here in New Mexico. I married a man who had fathered ten children. Luckily only the youngest four were still at home when I met, dated, and married Ralph. So, answering "How many children do you have?" isn't that easy for me. Let's see, I had one, adopted one, raised four more, and then there are the six who were already grown. Oh yeah, all but one are boys. My blended family range in age from 49 to 19. The 49 year-old is the only girl. Ann would hate it if she knew I told her age. Now I am getting into the grandchildren. Between my biological grandson, I have grandchildren from my step-children and some of them also have step-children. Is there such a thing as double step-grandchildren? Oh yeah, all but one of the grandchildren are boys also. And to think, I believe in Zero population growth...but remember, these boys were already here and needed someone to teach them to be liberals.
