J's Story
If I won $100 million, I'd give a portion of it to my old church, then spend the rest on my immediate and extended family, travel around the world, remodel/restore a few homes, and return to Hawaii.
Back story: After high school, it took a while to get my bachelor's because of working full-time, plus my bouts with Hepatitis C (which was finally treated successfully in 2009). I had to give up the dream of becoming an actress! I went to Bowie State, P.G. Community College, the University of Maryland, and the University of Hawaii, eventually getting double degrees in Journalism and Speech. I followed with graduate work in Speech, and Business/Human Resources. I quit the working world several times, the first to be a stay-at-home mom; the last because of medical disabilities. I worked in non-profit, legal, educational, and high tech fields, doing administrative, H.R., and editing work mostly. I also edited a poetry...Expand for more
journal for five years. I was with my first husband for 10 years. My second husband died in 1993, and I never remarried; my hands were full raising three children.
Update April 2011:
I am now a grandmother! Olivia, my son Patrick's daughter, was born in December, and is she a beauty. My daughter, Maia, is also getting married in September and I am looking forward to that. My Alzheimer's scare was a scare. Turns out my dementia is mostly brought on by stress and depression. Didn't know it at the time, but I have advanced abdominal cancer. It's rare, and it actually called Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP for short). I will have a massive, controversial 10+ hour operation known as HIPEC, next month. It's my only option at this point.
I enjoy reading about old friends and classmates, and seeing pictures! Wish people would post more. It is just incredible to me that we have weathered four decades since high school!
