J.'s Story

Life I left Chicago in 1968, moving to Philadelphia where I trained as an Operating Room Tech. In 1971, I moved to Easton, Maryland to attend Kirkland Hall College. While at Easton, I started working as a reporter at the local radio station (WEMD). In 1972 I gave up school to pursue a career in radio. I moved to Berlin New Hampshire to take a job as a disc-jocky for WMOU. From there it was back to Delmarva in 1974 at WWTR, Bethany Beach Delaware. 1975 found us hidden away in central Pennsyvania at WKOK in Sunbury. In 1977, we made the big move down to the sunny shores of South Carolina taking a spot at WKZQ, Myrtle Beach. Over the next four years I worked at WNMB (North Myrtle Bea...Expand for more
ch), was Program Director at WTAB (Tabor City, NC) and went back to WNMB as Music Director. In 1981, I moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. To simplify matters with immigration, I had my name legaly changed to my Air Name (Jay Charland). While here, I did a brief stint with CKST in St. Albert, worked with CFRN (both as an announcer and a sports talk show producer) and spent six years as Program Director of CHQT. In 1992, I went to work for the Diocesan Newspaper, The Western Catholic Reporter. Over the years, I've done some acting (the majortiy amateur), magic, and coached woman's basketball at both youth, adult levels as well as at the collegiate level for King's University College.
