JEAN's Story

In 1992, I married A. Roy Kirkley, Jr., a fellow Class of 1968 member and moved to New Jersey where he owned a successful business training school along with his brother for 14 years. In 2009, following a protracted 32 month hospitalization, Roy passed away, leaving me alone. In January 2011, I moved back to Philly and in August launched the BOOMERS 'R HEROES Caregiver Support Group. The problems faced during Roy's illness motivated me to reach out to help others in our group who may be going through similar situations with spouses, parents or even children. f the world are the “sandwich” generation caught between raising our children and caring for our aging Parents, there is an ever growing need to juggle much more than we ever dared to imagine. BOOMERS ‘R HEROES is a place to go to download the stress and strain of taking care of everyone else, including your bosses, while managing NOT to neglect yourselves in the process. You’re important, too! You need to voice your fears, your needs and seek self-healing in a nurturing environment. Your voice, as a caregiver, will be heard.
