Jacalyn's Story
Life
I mvd to Seattle in 85 with my son & 2nd husband, an atty who later distinguished himself by being disbarred in 2 states. My 1st hsbd is deceased. I have a B.S. in mus. & psych. & a teach. cert. in both. Never taught in pub. school, but have been a tchr/therapist in various compensatory preschs. I'm alarmed by how many of our zeitgeist are keening to retire. I'm still looking for aging/dying loopholes & wouldn't mind examining the fine print of a Faustian contract extending my earthly pursuits. I esp. want to return to grad sch to study infant neurology, a la Bruce Perry of Bayor U., but the cogs & bits of life have intervened. One need not have a scholarly degree to experience the felicity of one's curiosity & contentment, right? I don't play oboe anymore; I've had 6 surgeries on my rt. hand for a long-story kind of infection (neuro damage). I have an adult son from my 1st marriage & 1 grandson who has been with me since birth & whom I have adopted. (Another long story.) I've been in touch with PTHS tchrs P. Crabtree, L. Snyder, J. Shoemaker & A. Court. I would like to find M. Schlintz. Since moving to Sea I'v been a paralegal, toiling with overachieving attys in Way Too High Powered Lawfirms. pite from that mind set, esp. since the Sea environment invites yr.-round gardening. There are more master gardeners here than the entire congregation of '65 PTHS grads. This is a lovely region & I only miss the cartoonishly large, tasty & juicy Illinois tomatoes & the enchanting fireflies that, in my backyard at least, spent a lot of time blinking through glass jars. I'm not the only Jones here. My sister Kim ('75)& her son; my brother Erie ('70), & my mom are all within 2 Sea zipcodes of me. My father died (in IL) in 1987. Sister Jenny ('76) lives in deepest darkest southern IL, sister Paula ('72) in Idaho, & sister Rebecca ('69) in Ariz. Please accept my best wishes to you all.
School
I first attended the U of I at Urbana/Champaign, but graduated with a double major in psychology and instrumental music. I received talent grants throughout college for playing my oboe in mostly orchestral groups. I met my first husband there; he was one of my psych professors (but we didn't date until after I graduated; anyway he gave a C in Learning Theory. I think it might have turned out better if I hadn't taken a 2 week vacation to Florida and remembered to purchase the text book. In graduate school I played oboe in the ISU graduate woodwind quintet.
