Jack's Story
My Dad was transferred in mid - April of 1966 so I missed graduation and the other activities. In May of 1970 I graduated with a BS in Math from a small college in Arkansas, and was commissioned as an Army Engineer Officer. When I returned from Vietnam in February 1972 I was released from active duty. After some unsuccessful job hunting I started in summer school at the Univ. of Arkansas in June. I completed BS and MS in mechanical engineering in mid-July 1974. A few weeks before that I met the woman that would become my wife on a blind date, and we were married in July..
We moved to Baton Rouge for work and our son was born in April 1976. We moved to new job in Jacksonville, AR in July 1976. After a few months the company I left in Baton Rouge offered me a job in their new plant in south Arkansas. We stayed there 13 1/2 years and our daughter was born there in November 1978. uly of 1990 we were transferred back to Baton Rouge. I took advantage of being near Louisiana State Univ. and completed my PhD in May 1998. I taught evening classes at LSU for 6 years. I retired from a chemical company in June 2005 and consulted until December 2006. In January 2007 I accepted a full-time teaching job at LSU. I taught classes and was Undergraduate Coordinator for ME Dept. I finally retired in May 2015.
My wife and I took a once in a lifetime trip in September 2015. We flew to Vancouver and went on a cruise up the inland passage to the lower part of Alaska Then we toured across Canada by train and bus. The Canadian Rockies were beautiful - it snowed on us most of the 15th of Sep. It was the honeymoon I could not afford 41 years ago as a graduate student.
On April 28th of 2016 I was inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Mechanical Engineering in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
